you can fight and die for your country at 16, the government forced the states to pass the law or lose highway funds, yet the roads still suck

Doesn't make sense, does it! If you can fight and die for your country and vote for your President, then why the hell can't you have a drink too?!
Funny, since it's perfectly alright for the Irish and the rest of Europe to take their kids to the pub and hand them a drink?

If we lower the drinking age, we also have to change our cultural attitude towards what drinking is about. Yes, children drinking with a parent at a meal is a common sight, but in most European cultures, drinking isn't an activity in the sense that it is in America. Rather, it's an addition to an activity, a small part of a meal. You have dinner and a glass of wine, or you meet a friend and have a beer, rather than not eating for five hours beforehand so you can down that many more Jagerbombs before puking your guts out, or getting trashed, THEN going to get drunk at the club. Otherwise, you're just going to see binge drinking beginning at even younger ages.
The Europeans drink for the love of a good beer and wine, we Americans tend to drink for the love of a good buzz and stupor.
