if 18 is old enough to join the army and kill or be killed, then it's plenty old enough to enjoy a beer.

I agree with Timbo. The point is that if you are mature enough to kill someone for the country.....Why would you not be mature enough to have a drink?

Why is this even being debated? Who is pushing to lower the drinking age?

Either lower the drinking age or raise the age to enter the military and to vote. If you are mature enough to make the decision to put yourself in harms way or to make an informed decision about who our elected leaders should be, then you should be able to decide whether or not you want a drink. Oh yeah, raise the age for tobacco, too.

If an 18 year old is not mature and responsible enough to drink, why would we want this person to defend our freedom? Just use them as fodder?

Hmmm most folks that I know that have drinking issue's are over 40. So hmmm maybe no one should be drinking cause they ain't mature enough either. Wher drinking and people are you are going to have problems no matter what age they are cause there were idiots before they got drunk and they are bigger idiots drunk.

I agree age does not equal maturity.

Your answer does not make sense. when they join the military they are trained to do the job they picked. When they turn the legal age to drink they are not... So yes my answer does make sense!

So they can be trained to operate multimillion dollar equipment, seek and destroy, how to be a good soldier and go off and possibly die for our freedom, yet they can't be trusted to drink a beer? Again, makes no sense.

You are trained for that situation! They don't train you how to drive drunk!

Not everyone drinks and drives. That is the responsible part. Again, if you can't trust someone with the right to drink, how can you expect that same person to make a responsible decision to join the military. And do not get me wrong. I have the greatest respect for soldiers. Do you not realize that any where that these guys are stationed outside the U.S. they have the legal right to drink. Only when they are back in the USA is the only place they can't. Some countries have no drinking age.
