Civil unions give all the legal rights of marriage. To go beyond that is nothing more than an attack on Christian values. Tolerance goes both ways. We have come miles on this issue since the days when sodomy was a felony punishable by prison.

Christians didn't invent marriage.

Personally I don't think the government should be involved in marriage at all. But they are, and that ain't gonna change. So I reckon they ought to mind their own business about who gets married.

If you're against gay marriage, don't marry one. Problem solved.

You're correct Christians didn't invent marriage, GOD did and He left the Christians in charge of guarding the institution of it. The true Church will never compromise on this issue. I'm sorry if that gets under your skin and you can vent until your time on earth is done, but that will not change anything. One man joined in the bonds of HOLY matrimony to one woman. You can always go to some State that allows gay marriage and find a so called minister to perform a ceremony, you can get a little marriage certificate to hang on your wall. BUT, it will all be outside the eternal plan of the one who hung the stars in the heavens and therefore fake and phony. A farse, illegitimate, baseless hoax.

Oh my. It concerns me that there are so many self-righteous people such as yourself who feel justified in forcing their ideals on others.

Ain't you gonna be pisssed when it's the law of the land!

'Cause it's gonna be.

You're no different than the douchebags pisssing their pants at the thought of an interracial marriage. They lost and you're gonna lose too.

I seriously don't understand why you don't get it. There is no SELF righteous or otherwise in what I said. People who prefer same sex partners have every right to choose and live that life style. I advocate civil (non religious) unions. Marriage is a union of two people sanctioned by the church. Now think a little bit please. To force marriage of same sex couples on society is to force the chrstian community to accept it against their beliefs. Do you really feel you have the authority to rewrite Christianity? If a pastor of some local assembly feels he cannot perform a same sex union would you have him thrown in jail for violating some discrimination law? REALLY! Are you so intolerant of Christians you would have them jailed just because they disagree with your life choices? All most Christians are saying is live your life and we will live ours. You are welcome to join my club just like I can walk away and join yours. But, we have to leave the by laws of each outside to join the other club. AMEN!

Oh! By the way, why did you interject race into this gay marriage topic? As a Christian I am a follower of Jesus, he was Jewish, part of a race of the most persecuted people on the face of the earth. You may well be right about gay marriage becoming law some day soon. That would not be shocking to me and it would not make me mad. It would just be nothing. I already explained that you can find legality in some states now. LEGALIZED ILLEGITIMACY! I mean you can go to Vagas and find legalized prostitution, just heard of a country
that just legalized drugs. Hitler even legalized murder for a while until justice caught up to him. The same book that teaches us about Adam and Eve also teaches about a time soon coming when the true judge and supreme law enforcement officer will return and throw out all man made law. I don't think gay marriage will make the cut. As far as interracial marriage that same book tells me Moses's second wife was black. Again I say to you I am not the judge I'm just his cheer leader.

Marriage existed long before christianity or even judaism. Nobody will force your silly churches to participate- this is about the LEGAL convention of marriage. If you reckon the church ought to have a monopoly on that, then you should be trying to get the government out of marriage altogether.

Fact is that the government IS involved in marriage. No church required. As such, the government ought to mind their own business about who does and doesn't get married. I personally don't care if two guys get married, or if a mormon guy marries five women. It's none of my concern.

You're just like the people who were against interracial marriage. They used the bible to back up their opposition. And they lost.

You will too.

You truly are an idiot if you think that ANYBODY is proposing that churches be required to marry gay people.

I know how baptist preachers are back in Tennessee- they're mostly ignorant fools, and they probably believe that. Hell, they probably PREACH such willful ignorance. Some folks might call that lying.

If gay marriage becomes the federal law of the land it will also be a civil rights issue. Anyone including those Baptist preachers you spoke of who refuses to marry two men or two women will have violated that couples civil rights. Use your brain look what Obama is trying to do to the Catholics over contraceptives using only presidential mandates. I don't know where you come up with marriage predating the church as the church was a concept of Christ conceived in Himself before the foundation of the world.you're viewing this whole from a position of a man tethered to this world. I view it through the eyes if it's creator, those trains cannot meet. I further don't understand what marriage would do for you that a civil union will not.

Well you got one thing right: "those trains cannot meet". If you're so ignorant of history that you believe christians and/or jews invented marriage, then I really don't know what to say. To be honest I'm surprised you're literate.

As for the catholics- I frankly don't give a rat's as5. Christians have been handled with kid gloves for far too long. If they're gonna be a part of society then they gotta follow the rules like everybody else. Personally I'd like to see chruches' tax-exempt status revoked too.

About civil unions- I don't really have a problem with them personally. I would fully support the notion if they wanted to put it into law. But the gays want marriage- they reckon it's their equal right. And I tend to agree with them. If the government will marry one couple but not another, then that is not equal protection under the law. If marriage is a religious thing, then government shouldn't be doing it anyway.

But I don't expect an ignorant fool like you to understand that.

If you look at history you'll find that all marriages where performed in church as a religious ceremony until sometime in the late 1800's. In England no marriage performed outside of a Church was considered legal. BUT, STOP! All I ask of you is to inform anyone following this forum what list of things,(if any) would be accomplished by marriage that cannot be done with a government civil ceremony. Also, why gays making up less then 5% of the total population in America should be allowed to dictate to the vast majority in this democracy? One last thing, I don't think name calling can win a debate, it only shows a lack if command of the subject.

Actually name-calling shows a lack of respect. And I find it really hard to respect a guy like you who has such a narrow view of history and who wants to deny people their equal rights based on his ignorant world-view.

Anyhow, this ain't England. And if marriage is a religious ceremony, then government shouldn't be doing it anyway. We have separation of church and state you know- unlike medieval times that ya'll christians would like to return to. And if marriage is NOT a religious ceremony, then it should be applied equally under the law to whomever wants it.

Like I said, I would fully support civil unions if some politician on a national level had the balls to propose it. But most gay people want marriage- and they want it to be called that. And I reckon that that's their right under the equal protection clause. Funny how ya'll conservatives only respect the constitution when it suits you.

I don't know what percent of the population gays are. You say 5%. I've heard others say 10%. Doesn't really mean much to me. Let me re-state your question for you:

"why should blacks making up less than 14% of the total population in America be allowed to dictate the vast majority in this democracy?"

See? You're the same thing as a racist. And you're on the wrong side of history for the same reasons.

It's kinda funny, Musterion. Based on your other thread about the gas can, I can tell you that I grew up in your neighborhood. There's a pretty good chance that we've met in person.

But I left Tennessee a long time ago. Haven't been back for more than a few days at a time in well over a decade. Thanks for reminding me about one of the reasons I left. You folks will be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century whether you like it or not. You can slow down progress. You can deny it, hide from it, and rail against it. But you can't stop it.

I noticed you didn't answer the questions. So are you conceding the debate? There is no dragging anyone into any time frame. One pf the main purposes of marriage is to document bloodlines so you don't end up having kids with your sister. No kids no purpose. All gay couples want to marry for is so they can tell themselves they are normal. Sorry, 5% gay 95% heterosexual that's the stats in American. So tell oh wise one which one would ne concideted normal 5% if the populace or 95%? I'll share with you a little secret gay rights, and abortion right to choose laws are not about individual rights. No! No! There are powerful environmentalists groups who feel that the earth is over populated and therefore we parasites are gobbling up all the resources. They believe it must be stopped. Why do you think 5 little bitty percent of the population can have so much political power? How much power you ask? Enough to pose this horse hockey poll in every small town forum in the country with dupes like you set to defend it. Continued:

There you go back to the same old tired thing mind your own business. I have spent much time explaining why we believe it is our business. We believe it is our business to hold up standard. You lost this debate because you're trying to defend something based on a premise that gay sex is normal behavior. You do this by trying to convince others that only ignorant people disagree with the enlightened ones such as yourself. I disagree, guess what it's America, I'm allowed to disagree. We have political parties for that reason. Fire and water don't mix same as darkness and light don't mix. Fire mix want to call water ignorant, same as the darkness might say the same thing about the light. But, the truly enlightened could only laugh at such true ignorance.

Of course you think it's your business. That's what you christians DO is try to run other peoples' lives. You're just like the muslims.

I never said that gay sex is normal behavior- I don't think it is. But the fact is that they're consenting adults who are not hurting anybody. Do you believe in the f*cking LAND OF THE FREE? I do. So mind your own godd*mn business.

Seriously, I used to respect ya'll christians. But the longer I live the more I see that ya'll are nothing like that jesus hippy that you claim to worship. No, ya'll are the pharisees. If jesus was real, he wouldn't claim you.

Daily Horoscope for June 18

No matter what else you're supposed to be doing today, it's a good idea to devote a little time to making sure your finances are running smoothly. You might even want to pay some bills now, rather than wait a couple of days until they're due, simply so you can make sure that you don't forget them. There should be some good news about a pay rise or perk, too.
