Creating a parallel institution that doesn't have the same level of social prestige is not sufficient. It will only breed resentment and conflict because the marginalized group will continue to be second class in essence. The only solution to mend the fractures in our society is to break down the artificial barriers that separate social groups. Inequality in marriage is one of the most obvious and irksome of these barriers, so it's destruction will do much to bridge the divides in our society.
