Death Penalty Debate - Pomeroy, OH

I just dislike the death penalty.

Some people just have it coming. No question about that. I despise violent and drug criminals.
The problem is, we are finding more and more (thanks to DNA) that sometimes the wrong people get convicted. Juries do the best they can with what they have, but sometimes they are wrong. Guilt or innocence is more a function of who has the better lawyer, not who did the crime.
Like we have seen so many times in this forum, one of the worst injustices you can do to someone is to wrongfully accuse them. It is even worse to wrongfully punish them. If that punishment is death, there is no way to go back and fix it.

I think that if u kill someone and take their life then you should get the death penalty, if it was up to me, they would get the exact same thing done to them as what they did to the person that they killed. "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth"

I agree it says an eye for an eye, so yes these people should receive the death penatly. I also feel that they should come back with public hangings. Think about it. Put someone in the middle of Pomeroy and hang them, leave them there for a few days so people can see them and I do believe we would have less crime. Most people know that they are not going to get anything out of it except 3 meals a day, roof over their head, and relaxation. Jail to some is a vacation. That's why most people end up going back after they got out. The real world is to hard for them, but jail or prison is an easy way of live. Why should are tax dollars support them? Kill them just like they have their victims. Hang em High.

Because killing the innocent in cold blood is wrong. Can not be compared to the justice system working as it was created to do by removing a murderer from society.

They don't kill people who have murdered people to show people that murdering people is wrong. They legally execute murderers to punish and to protect prison guards and innocent citizens from murderers who would murder again.

I'm not hardcore death penalty. I've been in the middle for a long time. But the more I learn about criminal behavior and study crime patterns, the more I support the death penalty.

I believe the person in question should absolutely be executed.However I also believe the death penalty should be used only where there is no doubt not just convicted beyond a reasonable doubt.while I'm not totally sure how to accomplish this,but DNA is one,surveilance another,numerous witness witnesses testimony.Ijust believe someone who commits an horredous crime such as the one being should have a date with the needle and not 20 years later.taxpayers should not have to spend millions of dollars keeping this person locked up until he passes naturally,and the pure viciousness of this case demands the death penalty.

Agree. It is easy to listen to the sad stories and feel pity on perpetrators. Most of them have been victimized in some way or another in their life times.
I went from being unquestionably in support of capital punishment for all killers to being firmly against the death penalty.(I believe it was at least in part due to that Sean Penn/ Susan Sarandon movie)But now, I do believe that it is the only option for violent, sociopathic/psychopathic murderers who were justly convicted through a trial by a jury. It is not an opinion I have formed lightly. I have given it serious consideration.
