Doctors must use discretion, but every pregnancy is different, so you can not set a rule about the timing of abortion. Dire situations sometimes arise. No one wants to have an abortion, but sometimes it is the best option for the mother, and we must protect the right to that private decision and safe reproductive care.

the decision to have a child is entirely up to a woman, her family and her doctor. It is a private matter that is no one else's business. Republicans who are on a mission to eliminate abortion completely and use the law to do so are hypocrites. They claim to want less government interference in private lives, but have no problem using the government to dictate womens' productive rights, who can marry whom, who can adopt and whether a terminally ill individual can decide for him/herself to terminate their life.

Well said. I've never thought of Republicans as hypocrites, but you're totally right. How can they say they want less govt interference, yet tell a woman what she can and can't do with her own body?

I say "Most" cases because I know some women who use it as a form of birth control who have several a year. I think every woman has a right to decide but you also have to make better decisions if you keep getting pregnant when you know you don't want to have a baby.

Abortion is now one of America’s most common surgical procedures performed on adults ... As many as one out of three women will have at least one abortion ... In some American neighborhoods .. the number of abortions far exceeds the number of live births ... Most Americans will pay little attention to the 39th anniversary of the infamous Roe v. Wade decision ... In 1973 .. the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that a woman has a constitutional right to arrange the killing of the unborn life within her ... Since that decision was handed down .. more than 50 million babies have been aborted .. at a rate of over 3,000 each day .... http://www.albertmohler.com/2012/01/20/aborti... .. continue

And frankly,(even though I still think your statistics are wrong) I'm glad we don't have 50 million more people living in the US today. That would be 50 million more people under the age of 39.

How ridiculous is Santorum????

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/03/...

......ban abortion to fund Social Security. What a novel idea! I couldn't believe it when he said it! That's like Sarah Palin saying she' qualified in foreign policy because she can see Russia (I heard that one too).

If s/he is shocked,it is only at your blatant ignorance.

No, there is nothing wrong with abortion. It is a legal, medical procedure and whether someone unrelated to you chooses to have one it is none of your dam business.

How do figure atheism into the picture? What does that have to do with anything?

No, there is nothing wrong with abortion. It is a woman's fundamental right to decide whether or not she wants to have a child. I'm a woman. It's my body and my choice. And you sir, you are a man; you will never be faced with such a decision.

That would be why more often than not it is fundamentalist Christian men who oppose abortion and a woman's choice in having a family.

This reminds me of a car I saw while driving home from work today. There were two bumper stickers. One said abortion=murder. The other was the bathroom symbols for man and woman. And said (with those picture things) marriage=man+woman.

Then the license plate frame said something about Jesus. Go figure. It was an old man driving the car. I'm sure he will face an unwanted pregnancy first hand, right?

I think the real question is when life begins. I'm not against early term abortion, but I can understand people who are. If you believe that life begins at conception then abortion really is murder.

If you believe it begins somewhere in the middle then late term abortion is murder (I think most people, including myself, agree with this).

If you believe it isn't alive right up until birth, you can have the doctor pull out it's wriggling body and abort it with a clear conscience.

If you believe life starts sometime later, then there's always the back shed.

You're absolutely right. And even with my pro choice stance, I still don't like late term abortions. I think that ball of cells turns into a life at some point in utero, but definitely not at conception. I still think everyone has the right to have an abortion. But I think the earlier the better.

While neither I nor any of the women u know have been in the position to have to decide, I am of the belief that it is a personal matter and none of my, or anyone else's business what someone else decides to do.

The religious right argues that tax dollars should not go fund that which offends their moral sensibilities. Well tax dollars go to religious social service agencies and other faith based organizations and some might disagree with that. We don't always get what we want, and one person's morality is another person's free will/choice.

What gives all these people the thought that they have any right to say what I or any other woman does with themselves. Abortion is a personal choice. The person making that choice has to live with the consequences of having an abortion or raising an unplanned child. That person is the one who has to answer to themselves everyday for their choice, and only they have to answer to whatever higher power they believe in about their choice.

As I was saying before, most people who are against abortion aren't just trying to take away your personal choice. If they believe in life at conception then what you view as your personal choice is murder to them.

I have to wonder when during a pregnancy you think it is too far to abort. Maybe you'd understand if you realize that that's how they feel about it right away. If the fetus is a living human, then it would be murder no matter how terrible and consequential it is to have it for the mother.

As I've said before, I'm not against early term abortion. I just think the discussions we have for and against it aren't going anywhere because we don't look at the situation scientifically. Until we can find out when life begins, there really is no answer as to whether it is okay or not.
