Box is taking advantage of a new iOS 8 "document picker" extension it expects will boost usage of its mobile cloud storage app Box foresees a significant jump in usage of its iPad and iPhone app resulting from one of the new extensions Apple will launch with the new iOS 8. Specifically, Box is taking advantage of the Document Provider extension to let users grab files they have stored in the Box cloud storage service from the interface of other iOS apps, as well as save the files back to Box after they're done working with them. Until now, this type of integration required third-party developers to sign up for the Box OneCloud mobile developer program and build a custom link for their app using Box's proprietary SDK .

Researchers from the United States and Sweden have launched free iOS and Android smartphone/tablet software that singles out which apps take the biggest toll on your device batteries and also visualizes fragmentation of Apple and Android mobile OSes. The NODES research group at the University of Helsinki's Department of Computer Science has joined forced with the University of California at Berkeley to deliver the Carat app and has published live stats based on some 2 terabytes of data extracted from Carat, which has been downloaded by about 750,000 users who employ more than 300,000 apps.

China might not get iPhone 6 until 2015

Apple's expansion into China is one of the biggest stories of 2014, which is why it's a surprise to hear that the company's long-awaited iPhone 6 may not be available there at all this year. According to a Bloomberg report - citing Chinese business paper 21st Century Herald - the delay is the result of Apple failing to come to an agreement with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Price shocker for iPhone 6 fans in Oman

Muscat: Apple fans in Oman who are planning to lay their hands on the new iPhone series have to shell out between OMR500 and OMR900, said traders having the price list. "The price list we have got from dealers in Dubai shows that the iPhone 6 16GB version will cost OMR540 and iPhone 6 Plus 16GB version will cost OMR680," said a sales representative at Smart Zone.
