When news started leaking out yesterday that Jaques Lazier would be taking over for Stanton Barret in the #98 Team 3G IndyCar, the question most people asked was "Why Jaques?". There are plenty of other drivers available, many of who raced a couple weeks ago in Indianapolis, but for whatever reason Lazier was picked as the guy.
On first glance it sounds like someone just picked three names out of a hat: Gil de Ferran, Takuma Sato, Marty Roth.
From the moment he announced his intention to compete in the IndyCar series Stanton Barrett has been labeled a punchline by virtue of the fact that he's coming to IndyCar racing well past his 30th birthday and the majority of his racing experience exists in something other than open-wheel cars.
