TRAI Releases Pre-Consultation Paper on “Allocation of Spectrum in 2G Band in 22 Service Areas by Auction” Comments Invited from Stakeholders by 15th February, 2012
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has today released a Pre-consultation Paper on “Allocation of Spectrum in 2G band in 22 Service Areas by auction” for comments of the stakeholders.
The Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in its Judgment dated 2nd February 2012 in the writ petitions no 423/2010 and 10/2010, has directed TRAI to make fresh recommendations for grant of licence and allocation of spectrum in 2G band in 22 Service Areas by auction, as was done for allocation of spectrum in 3G band.
On the issue of grant of licences, TRAI in its recommendation on “Spectrum Management and Licensing Framework” dated 11th May 2010 had already recommended that all future licences should be Unified Licences and that spectrum be delinked from the licence. “Draft Guidelines for Unified Licensing Regime” were also placed on TRAI website www.trai.gov.in on 16th January 2012 for comments of the stakeholders.
On the issue of “Allocation of spectrum in 2G band in 22 Service Areas by auction”, stakeholders have been requested to send their comments/suggestions on the issues involved.
Written comments are invited from the stakeholders by 15th February, 2012. Keeping in view the time bound nature of exercise, no extension of time will be given. Comments may be sent, preferably in electronic form to Shri Sudhir Gupta, Pr. Judge OP Saini has called Dr Swamy the petitioner to his chamber and the matter to be pronounced soon and the drama at Patiala Court is just to be unveiled.Swamy claim that A Raja allowed 2G Spectrum to be gifted away and thus be made co-accused in 2G Scam.
Delhi court on Saturday deferred till 12:30 PM the pronouncement of its order on Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy's plea to prosecute Home Minister P Chidambaram in the 2G case.
Swamy had moved the court seeking to make Chidambaram as co-accused in the 2G spectrum scam alleging he was as culpable as former Telecom minister A Raja in determining the prices of scarce spectrum and in allowing the dilution of shares.The Supreme Court on Thursday had refused to direct CBI to investigate the alleged role of Chidambaram leaving it to the Special Court trying the 2G case.
2G scam: Court dismisses Swamy's plea against Chidambaram
Special CBI court in Delhi dismissed Janta Party President Subramanian Swamy’s petition to make Union Home Minister P Chidambaram a co-accused in the 2G case.
In his order Special Judge OP Saini said that the “prayer of Swamy to make Chidambaram an accused is dismissed”.
The decision is being seen as a huge relief to the Union Home Minister.CBI judge initially postponed the delivery of judgement till afternoon. After more than an hour of suspense, the judge finally pronounced the verdict at around 1.50 pm.

The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to direct CBI to investigate the alleged role of Chidambaram leaving it to the special court trying the 2G case.A bench of justices G S Singhavi and A K Ganguly, had asked the lower court not to get influenced by its decision.
Meanwhile, petitioner Swamy has said that he will go in for appeal in the matter.
