And we wonder why other countries think we're so materialistic. Give your employees a day off to be with their families and enjoy what Thanksgiving means to them.

Of course this year, having a job may mean Thanksgiving, but I'm sure it's not for the employees that the stores will open. Gotta get more people in and do some early Christmas shopping...like Black Friday isn't enough.

Holidays,Family Time..seems like everything is losing it's value and meaning. I remember when stores were closed on Sunday and familes spent that day, all day together.

I remember those days, too. Actually looking forward to holidays instead of all the chaos! Sundays were about the only time my parents got any extra rest -- Sunday afternoon, because we went to church Sunday morning. We've lost a lot of the good traditions.

Yes, we have lost a lot. We just have to keep the morals, values and traditions alive in our families and hope they too carry it on.Our family all went to church together, including the Grandparents. You never even thought of doing anything else and you did not do anything besides rest, unless it was a Sunday drive or a hospital visitation. My husband and I continue to do this and the family time together. Now that the oldest daughter is a nurse, she works anytime, but she knew that going into this type of work.

I don't mind that stores will be open- I think that all retailers are looking for a competitive edge in this economy. I would also presume that many people who find themselves working on Thanksgiving are grateful for the hours and would (hopefully) be pragmatic about it.

Your point about eroding traditions is well made. I blame the PC attitude pervading our society at every turn. In schools, we can't have a Halloween Party- we have to have a 'Fall Festival'.
We can't have a Christmas Party- we have to have a 'Winter Festival'. Our children are not allowed to sing a song that has ANY reference to Jesus or Christmas; instead, they are force fed a left-wing diet consisting of manufactured holidays such as Kwanzaa. True American history and traditional values be damned- we don't want to 'offend' anyone, do we?

Shopping malls, public buildings, mass media, have all taken this PC attitude to the Nth degree and has left those of us who hold traditional Christian family values feeling dis-enfranchised.

<quoted text> You don't care because you have no family values or brains. You are the type of scumbag who is ruining our society. LOL! LOSER!! If we are all lucky you 2 scumbags will choke on a turkey bone,LOL! And Folks Disney has ruined Florida. It's the greedy crooked Jews who have had our laws changed in America to make slaves out of the American People. There use to be laws like the Blue Law that kept most stores closed on Sunday and Holidays. But Jews and others had their Lobbyist pay off our fat crooked Politicians to get this changed. America is under attack by crooked cops, politicians and more. Crooked Jews suck! Madoff should be hung and his crooked family should be locked up!! Go to your Malls and see the Jews from Israel who are invading America.Check out the stands in the middle of the mall halls and check out all the Jews. The stuff their selling is garbage!

Now let's create some mental pictures:

His wife's 'personal area' looks like Don King's hair in a billiard rack.

He's had crabs for so long, he had to register them as exotic pets.

His son and son-in-law are the same person.

He's got auto parts in his living room and considers them decorations.

In any given week, he will wear a stained, worn out NASCAR t-shirt at least once.

He owns an early 1990's Ford pickup truck that has rusted out, has a broken antenna, and all of the radio presets are tuned to country music stations.

He thinks that pumping gas is skilled labor.

His gym teacher bent him over in the locker room.

His gym teacher bent his mother over in the alley behind the Bowl-A-Rama.

His gym teacher bent his father over behind the Piggly Wiggly.

He thinks the the picture on the Russian Flag is Arm and Hammer.

He thinks Obama is doing a great job.

He thinks that Smokey and the Bandit is the greatest movie of all time.

He can't watch golf on TV- the action is too much for him to keep up.

He thinks Dora the Explorer is a plot to corrupt chilldren.

He thinks that Spaghetti Night at the Firehouse is a romantic dinner.

He thinks that 'gray' is the proper color for a woman's teeth.

His wife likes cops and Jews.

My teenager has to work Thanksgiving again this year at Kmart. While he appreciates his job, he doesn't need the money earned from one day's earnings. Every employee must work a shift, there are absolutely no exceptions to this rule in my PA town. Sadly, he will miss time spent with family coming in for the day; loved ones we don't see very often. The retail stores like Kmart, Walmart and Target ought to be ashamed of themselves. If we are to thrive as a nation, we need to foster family values and honor our Thanksgiving celebration. Please send a message to these stores. Don't shop on Thanksgiving. Send the retailers a message that we care about the family and our Thanksgiving traditions.
