neil and orr are going to be UFAs, one of them would certainly be nice. i'd also love to see them sign camalleri from calgary, not gonna be room to resign him there with j-bo coming in and hes coming off his most productive season ever. it wont be rediculuous like signing both sedins to around what theyre asking (12 years around 7 per EACH) KO and streit on the point with bailey centering tavares and camalleri would be unreal

Rather than taking Tavares out of his element where he can perform naturally, how about using some of that depth at Center and deal for a young scoring Winger who is either part of a crowded group or is presenting Cap problems for another team? July 1st Free Agents are going to be available and that route shouldn't be entirely disregarded. We actually MUST spend significant dollars to merely reach the CAP FLOOR!!

Logged in to ask about the possibility of obtaining Orr or Neil, but looks like I was beaten to the punch. We need enforcers to protect Tavares and the other small forwards.

I dont see what the problem with Joel Rechlicz was? I agree that the isles need a guy who can skate, hit, and drop the gloves if necessary, but Rechlicz was able to do that.

Colton Orr would be a great fit, but I dont see the Rangers not bringing him back. Neil is not a heavyweight, and the isles already have Tim Jackman who is everything you could ever ask for in a checking line winger.

No way the isles make an offer to camalleri, or the sedins for what they are gonna ask for. They should however bring in another veteran winger who can play the body and net 20 plus goals. They should also look to bring in some help on D, even if its not a top line guy. I believe Kevin Weeks is a UFA, and the isles definitely need a goalie who can step in if/when Ricky D gets hurt.

I totally agree. Tavares is not the savior. He is only a piece...but a MAJOR piece. If Snow can sign a solid free agent wing I would surely feel a lot better about this team, otherwise we most likely will have to wait a couple of years to see a significant improvement.

Neil may not be a Brashear/Orr/Laraque type of goon but he is capable of putting up a few points as well, and a good chunk of his time in Ottawa has been spent as their primary enforcer, except for a little while when they had McGrattan. As for the Sedins I don't see any scenario where they come to the Island, but Cammalleri would be a good fit. He can play center as well as the wing and should put up around 30 goals. He will be cheaper than the Sedins together, obviously. I don't know exactly what you mean by veteran winger, are we talking Bill Guerin-age veteran? I'm not sure if thats what you mean or not, but if it is then that will go against everything Garth is trying to do to build this team from a young core. Cammalleri is 27 and just hitting his prime now. Sign him to a deal similar to Streit's and hopefully he will be around when this team has made some significant progress. He isn't a physical player but then theres your Tim Jackman role. Komi is going to be a stretch to sign on D, but we may be able to get a guy like Scuderi or Montador for significantly less, although Scuderi's stock probably rose a little whith his playoff performance. In goal, I feel like we have the most options in UFA, depending of course on what Garth wants to spend. You could go towards the cheaper side with a guy like Weekes, but if DP is going to be hurt very often then I would say spend more and get a guy like Conklin, Clemmensen, or Anderson. Legace might also be a steal because he spent most of last season in the minors after Mason took over in STL. If Garth really wants to shell out the bucks go for Khabi, Rolly, or Biron.

I dont think there is any problem with the Wrecker... he is ahead of schedule developmentally, the Coach had some good things to say about him on Bottas PB blog, but he is not at the point where he can do it all. He is part of the future of this team IMO but he is still a kid. The Isles needs to get someone tough on a 1y deal to give Wrecker some more time to skate and learn the ropes.

As far as goalies go, no thanks to Weekes... he is not as good as he used to be and he was never great. I want someone like Conklin, really.

As far as any other needs go, they are NOTHING compared to these two and since there is no way in hell Garth is signing a bunch of FAs, a goalie and a tough guy who can play the game adequately is all we are likely to get. Im OK with that as long as the two biggest needs are addressed.

i def dont think the islanders want camellari but i do think that nate thompson's tenure on long island is finished. richard park can be dealt for a pick or a prospect and we can have room for tavares without changing anyones positions.

tavares, weight, bailey, neilson is a decent lineup down the middle. give it 2/3 years and maybe it will become a great group of centers (minus weight after retirement). islanders need to focus on signing a WINGER or two to play with these guys.

I liked Rechlicz a lot, but think we would be better picking up another (more experienced) enforcer in addition to keeping The Recker. Orr would definitely be my first choice. He played for Scott Gordon in 2004-2005 in Providence and I'd expect the Islanders to pursue him.

Chris Neil is the Tim Jackman that we already have.

Camelleri is not coming to the island, and whereever he does go, he will be grossly overpaid. Every team in the NHL knows how good he is. Its not like its a secret. If for some reason he decided to come to the NYI......great. But as we have seen the last few years, its very hard to bring in UFA's to this team.

As far as a veteran i was referring to either re signing Dean Mcammond or someone of his ilk.....veteran N American.....

I brought up Weeks because he is out in NJ. Clemmensen played well when Brodeur was out. I dont see the isles paying up for any of the other netminders. I chose Weekes because he took the back seat role no prob. Im not saying he will be a vezina candidate, but it will certainly address the back up need.....

Lets get one thing straight......Joel Rechlicz is not going to be a great hockey player. He has a role, and its been the same role he has had his whole career. The difference between him and say Mitch Fritz is that Rechlicz can skate, which leads to hits, which leads to turnovers (just look at Jackman). I personally feel that for his purpose Rechlicz is good enough....

Neil is a more complete player than Jackman, and would be a perfect fit next to Tavares. Gionta is worth a sniff. Kessel is not worth a 1, 2 and 3 but maybe the B's do a deal. I agree that Cammaleri will be overpriced. If you're going to overpay, then get Komisarek and/or Ohlund. In goal, I think waiting until the end of training camp for a veteran is the way to go. You only need a stopgap at this point, cuz all your eggs are still in Ricky's glass backet.

Don't think we are going to bring in an enforcer for protection in addition to what we have. I was noticing as the year went on anytime things started getting chippy you would have everyone jumping in to protect each other. Didn't matter who was out there Tamby, Comeau, Okposo, they started standing up for themselves and their team mates.

No doubt about it, there's prime meat here by adding Tavares, but without the potatoes the plate is still fairly empty.

Then in my opinion the bigger issue is the NETMINDER. Will DP really make it in top form this year, and the bigger question is DP really the ideal? He's been out of the net more than in the net. The Isles really need a top #1 goalie. I don't believe DP is the physical answer in the net. And when I say physical I mean his physical being. I'm hopeful we don't see early injuries but I have to believe he's suspect.
