One of the more controversial moves Doug Wilson has made over the past year was trading Jamie McGinn and Michael Sgarbossa to the Avalanche for Daniel Winnik and T.J. Galiardi at the 2012 trade deadline.

In addition to being a central part of the core of the San Jose Sharks , all three of them were drafted and developed by the team that they play for.

The most pleasant surprise of a Sharks season that was full of surprises that were far from pleasant was the emergence of Tommy Wingels .

Their $8.7 million worth of cap room is the seventh least in the NHL , and their roster size as of July 1 - the day free agency begins - will be the fourth-smallest in the league, as only 14 Sharks will remain under contract.
