Round 1 of TSN.ca's 2013 Play of the Year Showdown keeps the plays coming with a couple of beautiful plays from two storied franchises.

When Ryan Smyth was traded back to the Edmonon Oilers in June of 2011, Oiler fans rejoiced that the one player who was said to be the heart and soul of the club was finally returning to his home.

Some observers of the 2013 edition of the Edmonton Oilers might argue they would like to replace the majority of the team.

I'm still going to cheer for the Oilers, and only the Oilers, but I'm sick of the underachieving; leave that to me! On that note, it sure was nice to see a couple high-scoring wins to finish off the season.

But the final score 7-2 - the last five Edmonton goals netted within an unbelievable 3:35 minutes late in the third period, albeit against a second-rate squad - was bittersweet.

Unfortunately for fans of the Edmonton Oilers, it's the home side that has looked "daffy" in their recent match-ups with the Anaheim Ducks, especially at Rexall Place where the two squads meet for a rare doubleheader tonight and tomorrow.
