There's been some talk about the Edmonton Oilers acquiring former NHL defenceman Paul Ranger, who played for new head coach Dallas Eakins with the Toronto Marlies this season.

Mere moments after news broke of the Edmonton Oilers decision to part ways with head coach Ralph Krueger, rumours started to make the rounds of Dallas Eakins being the front-runner for the vacant post.

Ralph Krueger was fired Saturday as coach of the Edmonton Oilers after leading the team to a 12th-place finish in the Western Conference in his lone season.

Krueger is out as head coach after guiding the Oilers to a 19-22-7 record this past season.

With all of the talent the Edmonton Oilers have accumulated over the past few seasons, the team is extremely close to taking the next step and finally competing for a playoff position.
