With the 2012 Stanley Cup Final underway, just two teams remain playing in this NHL season.

The 2012 Stanley Cup Finals begin tonight in Newark with the New Jersey Devils and Los Angeles Kings , two decidedly unlikely combatants as the 6th and 8th seeds in their respective conferences, facing off.

There is probably no head coach in hockey that Los Angeles Kings centre Mike Richards knows better than Peter DeBoer.

This season, the Devils are 2-0-0 against the Kings and while that might look like a solid small sample size, looking closer at their previous games tells us that history means nothing between these two.

It's as though some are waiting for this big apology from Brian Burke, a mea culpa moment, an acknowledgment that the success of the Los Angeles Kings in these Stanley Cup playoffs is undeniable proof that he miscalculated with the Maple Leafs this season.

The puck drops Friday night on the 2012 Memorial Cup , and like in recent years, the Buffalo Sabres will have some rooting interest this year too.

Jonathan Quick 's lateral movement is undeniably impressive. Just ask the reporters and team employees who approached his locker for an interview earlier this week, only to watch the Los Angeles Kings ' All-Star goalie quickly pivot and back out of the room with remarkable agility.

Going into the playoffs this year, all the talk was about how dominant the Central division was , and how it was certain that two of the four teams would meet up in the Western Conference Finals.

The Los Angeles Kings are in, that much is known. The unknown is who their opponent will be.
