In acquiring left winger Jiri Tlusty from the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Carolina Hurricanes essentially threw in the towel on a player they drafted just more than five months ago - center Philippe Paradis, who went the other way in the trade.

Gillis turns another stone

Today, there may be room for Jason Krog in the NHL. Tomorrow, who knows? Krog, 32, is coming off an AHL championship with the Chicago Wolves and his one-year, one-way contract with the Vancouver Canucks for an undisclosed figure speaks of confidence in the free-agent centre.

Krog not KHL keen

Jason Krog always intended to play again in the NHL, not the KHL. The AHL scoring champion and playoff MVP gained more notoriety over a contract dispute with the Continental Hockey League -- the former Russian Super League -- this summer than when the Fernie native signed a one-year, one-way, $700,000-US deal with the Vancouver Canucks.
