Grand Rapids Griffins coach Curt Fraser weighs in on the Red Wings' 'next wave'

Detroit's director of amateur scouting didn't make his appearance at Joe Louis Arena until Friday morning's prospect camp session, and while Red Wings GM Ken Holland and assistant GM Jim Nill have been otherwise occupied with Jiri Hudler's contractual situation and the NHL's summer Board of Governors meetings, respectively, that doesn't mean that ...

Ted Kulfan: Another Red Wings rival fades away

Another link to the classic Red Wings-Avalanche rivalry is gone. It was bad enough when Patrick Roy, Steve Yzerman, Claude Lemieux and Darren McCarty were skating off the scene, retiring, and taking so much emotion with them.

One more win wouldn't have changed Wings free agents' plans...

As someone who follows the Red Wings on an explicitly subjective basis, I can't deny that the salary-cap induced changes that will follow the 12 PM EDT start of free agency sting, and I could go on about the fact that the actions of GM's during the unrestricted free agent period have screwed up the NHL's salary structure more than a salary cap ever ...

If everybody walks...

As MLive.com's own Ansar Khan notes, if the Red Wings' higher-profile free agent forwards leave the organization, and the team loses Jiri Hudler to a restricted free agent offer sheet as well, the Wings will find themselves down a couple of forwards.

Red Wings still want to keep Samuelsson, Hudler if they can't reach an agreement with Hossa

As reported on Monday night, the Red Wings have made their final offer to Marian Hossa and his agent, Ritch Winter, and while it's not necessarily fair to paint the agent as the "bad guy" when the player ultimately decides his future, he seems to understand what role he plays in the eyes of Red Wings fans.

One more Cup just not in cards for Wings

Defending the Stanley Cup is even harder than most Red Wings fans thought. That became readily apparent after Detroit won the first two games of this year's Stanley Cup Final at home, but lost four of the next five to surrender the Cup to the Pittsburgh Penguins following a 2-1 setback in Game 7 Friday night at Joe Louis Arena.
