Only about 110 names —and 481 visits —out of the hundreds of thousands who have visited the Obama White House were made public. Advocates and nonprofit leaders include National Organization for Women President Kim Gandy, and Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, president of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, which is interested in health policy...... The irony of course is, or should be, that RWJF policies (funding smoking ban efforts) have eliminated hundreds of thousands of jobs.....something the White House claims they are trying to reverse. Now with J & J pharmaceutical and medical device maker's partner RWJF pushing government healthcare reform, job losses in the health insurance and private healthcare industry should also be anticipated. 1 Sure there is you non smokers drive them every day. Researchers have also found a link between lung cancer and certain air pollutants that are caused by the burning of fossil fuels. 2 Many other problems exist. We have new laws going on the books about the type fuel, type engine Ect. that we'll be using in the future. This forum is however, about smoking, not other sorces of toxic air. On future postings you make, Thanks in advance for sticking to the subject. |

1 Typical non smoking response. Now wouldnt you not agree its also about toxic substance that hurt your lungs like tobacco smoke ? Hence I feel its my moral duty to draw your attention to other toxic substances that are hurting your lungs. It would be only fitting to point out said substances since you are so concerned about your health, or are you ? Since I know most of your are not open minded enough to grab the concept of the fact that its not just one product killing you. No big issues on pushing to eliminate fossil fuels as a source for energy in the near future. Thank you for not paying attention to other health hazzards thats killing you. |

1 Isnt the smoking forums about non smokers blaming smokers for them getting lung cancer. My post were to inform the uninformed about other hazzards which causes lung cancer. Therefor I believe it does belong in the smoking forums. But it you prefer to be closed minded about other toxins causing you to develope lung cancer. Im ok with it.! |

1 Tell us Candid...your kind claims there is "no safe level" of tobacco smoke. Perhaps in all of your self righteousness...you could find the time to tell us all about the other forms of smoke that have "no safe level"? How about a list of the top 10? Would you be willing to apply your sides ridiculous standard of "no safe level" to all forms of smoke that contain known carcinogens...or only to those you hate? There is nothing more annoying than a self righteous moral busybody with HUGE double standards. |

1 NOONES rights and freedoms should take precedence over anothers. If a business owner decides to make their establishment smoke-free then that is their right. However, it is your right to not eat at a place that offers a smoking section. There has never been an unbiased study to accually link second hand smoke to lung cancer or other major health issues. So, I hope business owners fight this B-S law and I hope that we can run BEv's sorry butt out of office next election! |

1 Hey, just candid, since you post the same comments in every forum that I have seen tonight, I guess I'll do the same (only I have evidence to back my points up). Oh... just candid I'm new to these forums, and I can already tell that you are a real peach. This IS about rights/personal choices, and you'll be singing a different song when rights that you take for granted start getting trampled on. No one is forcing a non-smoker to enter a smoking establishment, and smokers are not asking to smoke in a non-smoking establishment. Why do you insist on pushing your values on us (by us, I mean everyone)? We don't need saving. We just need you to keep your nose out of our business. Calling the help of all NC residence that are concerned with saving our rights (this isn't about smokers vs. non-smokers. It's about Americans vs. excessive government control): We need your help! This crap continues to hurt businesses, livelihoods, and restrict rights of freedom one state at a time; slowly working it's way around the country. How far does this have to go before we decide to stand up? It started one state at a time. Let's stop it the same way! Taken from Section 1 of the 14th Amendment:“No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States” The smoking bans are trampling on the property rights of the owner’s of private enterprises, built on private property. In addition, they insult our intelligence as individuals, by eliminating our freedom of choice. Smoking citizens continue to be taxed more, and represented less. Hmmm…sounds kind of like what started the American Revolution doesn’t it? 1 I have got news for you. When a business opens its door to the public they can not do as they want. They have to abide by laws and regulations laid down by the government on public health and safety. Second as for an unbiased study what do you consider an unbiased? There are plenty of studies on second hand smoke and there effects by different groups. Third the trade group representing the state's 16,000 restaurant were neutral on the issue when the law was being debated. Fourth I do agree that Bev needs to be kicked out. |

1 I've already commented on you incorrect statements in a few other posts, but just in case you missed them there... Cigarettes are NOT an illegal commodity. Not allowing an establishment to cater to clientele that uses a legal commodity is absolutely unjust. The anti-smokers have no justification for saying: I want to go to XYZ Bar & Grill, but they smoke there… Let’s get the government to kick out their smoking customers so that we can go without having to put up with the smoke. Find a non-smoking establishment that fits your needs, or open one up to cater to the anti-smoking clientele. Whatever happened to free enterprise? Just because an establishment chooses to allow the public to enter their property, does not make it free public domain. It is private property and it is a privilege for the "public" to use these places of business. These businesses are only open to the public during certain hours. Most also reserve the rights to remove and/or refuse service to public visitors that disrupt their business operations. These facilities/owners pay taxes, and are not funded by the government. The sole responsibility of keeping the business afloat is in the hands of the owner and their clientele. Once the government starts paying the bills, they will have some right to tell them how to run their businesses. Please try to open your mind and see both sides of this situation. We are on a very slippery and dangerous slope.
