Stephanie Salter: Big surprise: Indianaa s in the Top 10 for pregnant smokers

Full story: Tribune-Star

If Hoosiers or Americans in general really acknowledged the health threat that is smoking, we would have declared a real national war on tobacco addiction - complete with readily available smoking cessation programs and the prescription aids to go with them.

She's entitled to her opinion and her beliefs, but I always like how they only capture one side of the story and allow her superiority attitude to be published. I am sure she makes some choices that are bad for her health and will justify her reasons. I like how the TV and newspaper reporters are usually "communications" or "journalism" majors. Instead of being a poli sci or some type of education that teaches them to report neutral unbiased reports, instead she went to Hitler school of journalism. She would be the first to volunteer to be the modern day Josef Mengele, deciding who lives and who dies. Look at her initials - SS.

While I in no way agree with Stephanie's position on the matter, you have to realize she is not acting in the capacity of a "journalist" or "reporter", but rather a "columnist". There is a huge difference.

It's kind of like saying the hosts of many of the radio/TV talk shows and news programs are journalists. They aren't. They are entertainers...pure and simple.

Hey, that would be really good, let's give pregnant women cessation aids! Like Chantix so she commits suicide! Like patches to give her skin lesions and make her hair fall out, and gums to make her teeth fall out or give her oral cancer so she can't kiss her newborn baby! It seems the anti-smoking zealots are desperate. Smoking has declined from the time my ancestors were raising their families, most of the women smoked at that time, so how are all of their children even alive? Pull the plug on this crusade!

Chantix is the most dangerous of the NRT'S. It is responsible for thousands of Hospital admissions and over 30 verifiable deaths. It is given to the Military and they now have the highest rate of Suicides ever in the service. Even the other NRT'S will cause an overdose of Nicotine and even more so if smoking is continued. Even the ACS admits, quitting Cold Turkey is easier and more effective. NRT'S have a 98.4% failure rate. A 1.6 success rate is nothing to brag about. If you research, you will find that no one knows what causes Cancer and SHS has not been proven to have killed anyone. The ACS/CDC have moved to change Death Certificates to claim, if even one cigarette has been smoked during a person’s lifetime, the cause of death must be recorded as due to smoking. The form can be filled out by anyone. They will do anything to show proof.
Non-smokers average is 70 at death and Smokers average is 71.9. We are all going to die sooner than we want.

Consider this. The 1993 EPA report which stated that SHS/ETS was the cause of 3,000 deaths a year has been vacated as a fraud by Federal Judge Osteen, a noted anti-smoking Judge, after four years of study with independent scientists and also said to be fraudulent by at least two Congressional Committees. Why do Anti-smokers continue to ignore these findings? This, in effect shows there is no reason to believe any study that uses this as a basis for studies is anything but fraud also. This would also show the Surgeon Generals report, which relied on the same cherry picked studies as it's basis, to be also a fraud and has been found to be by many. At this time there are at least four requests to investigate his report as a fraud. The supposed mountain of evidence is looking more like a fraudulent molehill. That's the beginning. I can see Indiana being the next target for the army of ban lobbyists. Senator Brown of Gary is getting ready as soon as legislation begins for a total statewide ban, including casinos.

Just a reminder of the sources of the bans, more concerned with "social change" than the bans themselves:

http://www.rwjf.org/pr/product.jsp...

And what the 99 million dollars was going to. Note on page seven the "inside -out", provision going for patios later, AFTER business owners spend thousands of dollars to build them to accommodate their smoking customers, clearly showing that the tobacco control activists have ABSOLUTLY NO CONCERN about local issues or businesses.

http://www.no-smoke.org/pdf/CIA_Fundamentals....

Here's the "model ban" from page eight that many communities copied, printed, and passed. It's the "smoking ban for dummies" It only takes a few minutes to fill in the blanks naming your community, the administrators names, and blanks to customize it to your community. This helps to hide the fact that well paid, professional roving lobbyists badger lawmakers to pass these bans.

its really sad..

my mother smoked through 4 kids, no birth defcts.. my grandmother had 3 children no birth defects.

my dads grandmother had 4 children no birth defects.

my brother has 3 children, no birth defects.

my sister has 2 children, no birth defects.

my wifes mother has had 2 children, no birth defects...

my wife an I 3 kids, no birth defects...

guess what, everyone but my father that made those kids smoked...

I aint saying smoking is healthy for the individual(breathing problems, lung cancer, etc..), but the only thing really changing over time is the way food companies are adding preservatives or the way cattle hormones are manipulated for meats...

one thing both our familes have incommon other then smoking women that beared children with no birth defects.. farm raised vegetables and farm raised meats vs. mainstream grocery stores....

Consider these options.... Ronald Reagan was right in Chesterfield Ads stating "They're good for you!" with a gleam in his eye and lit cig in his right hand OR because of government intervention the manufacturers in their quest for low tar, nico-free, have created an alltogether different breed of mutant super cigs! I doubt either actually but do agree that food production is most likely to blame. I blame growth hormone in chicken.

Daily Horoscope for February 9

Sagittarius

Just take things quietly for the moment. It's a reflective time and you'll get more benefit from looking back or within than you will from trying to push ahead or get things to happen. Someone else might be emotionally charged or upset. Help to ease their concerns. Engage in creative activity or just a bit of laziness. Stay away from the refrigerator though. You'll be inclined to indulge.
