Frugal Frigate for sale

Full story: San Bernardino County Sun

The Frugal Frigate is up for sale. The children's bookstore, a downtown mainstay, has been on the market for the past few days after owner Brad Hundman decided to sell due to "changes in my personal life," he said Tuesday.

Thank G-d! Brad was so abrasive that I stopped going in there with my kids and instead took them to Barnes and Noble. All he ever did was brag about what wonderful changes he had done to the store, while in between smearing the previous owner. There was nothing special about the store while Brad owned it, nothing really changed except for the fact that kids couldn't touch anything and Brad stalked you throughout the store while stroking his own ego. The real reason they are selling it is because hes not making any money. I hope the new owners return it to the literary sanctuary it was for children.

Wow. I'm sad to see it go. Brad's love of books and generosity to the community will be missed. Brad was always kind about reminding parents not to let their very young children not touch the books. Who wants to buy something that has been smeared with dirty hands or torn? But then again how many parents think beyonf their own family unit anymore anyways?

I have been in the store when Brad is directing the parents and the kids to keep the books nice. You have no idea how the public treats things they have no intention of buying. Just because it is open to the public, does not make it a public place for people to read for hours. Small business is hard to keep going. Especially when people come in looking for a special book, find it (because the staff is great and knows the books) and then tell their child as they are walking out the door,“we will just buy it from Amazon or B&N.” Brad has created a great deal of excitement to some kids who were not reading. He brought a lot of big name, award winning authors to the people of Redlands. I just think we should say thanks and be careful with his books until we purchase them.

Hoping the new owner will make it a place where kids are welcomed - not discouraged! Also hopeful that the Women's section will return with the new owner...although Brad bemoaned it as unprofitable. I have to disagree, because it drew women WITH KIDS into the store. I've heard several people lately complain about this store!

Hi Brad.
???? Sorry, wrong name, wrong gender. I've been a frugal frigate customer for many many years and I hate the thought that it might close.

Here, here! This guy was, first and foremost, a businessman, looking to turn a buck out of his store, quick to engage with the community as long as it was a benefit to his bottom line. So

Do worry, the Super Walmart on the way and you can buy your books there, along with your diapers and Depends.

And Super Walmart is so much fun. You can wear your favorite brite, elastic-wasted pants, your houseshoes, and you can scratch and belch outloud while your read your fav magazine. Oh, don't worry, the buggery kids are over in the toy section playing.

I hope someone buys it. I've daydreamed of running it myself once or twice, but I don't think it's meant to be. I had Katherine Thomerson as a teacher and loved her store. I don't think I ever really encountered Brad, but I loved the new look of the paint on the exterior. I so hope it stays open. I don't have kids yet...just wander in on occasion when I want to ask for a book recommendation, since I know the employees there actually read a lot of their stock. I would feel awful if it were gone.
