Fair Grounds slashes purses for 2014-15 season, cancels 15 stakes races

The Fair Grounds released their 2014-15 Thoroughbred schedule on Wednesday, announcing a drastic reduction in both stakes races and stakes purchases for the upcoming season. Overnight purses will also be cut by 17 percent or $37,000 a day.

I'm rereading Casino Royale after finding I could borrow it through Amazon Prime. Since the last time I read the debut James Bond novel, I have learned a few superficial things about gambling from watching pro poker on TV, and was amused by a detail of the story: In the climactic hand in the book's baccarat game, besides Bond completely slow-rolling Le Chiffre, he also gives off a couple of huge tells after getting two terrible cards, even though his opponent was yet to act.
