World's Top 10 Most Polluted Places

Full story: www.sciam.com

1. Sumqayit, Azerbaijan —Yet another heir to the toxic legacy of Soviet industry, this city of 275,000 bears heavy metal, oil and chemical contamination from its days of chemical production. As a result, locals suffer cancer rates 22 to 51 percent higher than their countrymen, and their children suffer from a host of genetic defects, ranging from mental retardation to bone disease. “As much as 120,000 tons of harmful emissions were released on an annual basis, including mercury,” says Richard Fuller, founder of Blacksmith, an environmental health organization based in New York City. “There are huge untreated dumps of industrial sludge.”

1. Sumqayit, Azerbaijan—This area gained the dubious distinction of landing atop the Blacksmith Institute’s list of the world’s most polluted sites. Yet another heir to the toxic legacy of Soviet industry, this city of 275,000 bears heavy metal, oil and chemical contamination from its days as a center of chemical production. As a result, locals suffer cancer rates 22 to 51 percent higher than their countrymen, and their children suffer from a host of genetic defects, ranging from mental retardation to bone disease.

WTF? Ok even I an Armenian will not like to see kids suffer and adults get cancer.
Tell that to king Aliev with his billionaire family stashing in Swiss banks to clean up the city.
Azerbaijan is like 11th century feudal country ruled by King Aliev clan.Does he have a son? LOL
So much for Turkish pride!

Appeared to be an attempted cover up as well according to Rogan.

Latest News:

Tainted Irish Pork may have reached 25 nations.

Irish pig meat contaminated with toxic disxin could have been exported to as many as 25 countries incuding France and the Netherlands, Irish Government official said on Sunday.
Contamination with dioxin may cause can cause cancer and other health problems

"We believe it's in the order of 20-25 countries. It's certainly less than 30," Chief Veterinary Officer Paddy Rogan told a news conference, speaking about how many countries could be affected, but he did not list all of them.

France and the Netherlands notified Ireland they had received contaminated shipments of meat or processed foods which later turned out to have originated in Ireland, while Belgium received contaminated by-products, officials said.

"They didn't contact us until we had gone public," Rogan said.

11 - Gay Greek Group Guide...
In classical antiquity, writers such as Herodotus, Plato, Xenophon, Athenaeus & many others explored aspects of same-sex love in ancient Greece. The most widespread & socially significant form of close same-sex sexual relations in ancient Greece was between adult men & adolescent boys, known as pederasty. The most common form of same-sex relationships between males in Greece was "paiderastia" meaning "boy love". It was a relationship between an older male & an adolescent youth. In Athens the older man was called erastes, he was to educate, protect, love, & provide a role model for his beloved. His beloved was called eromenos whose reward for his lover lay in his beauty, youth, & promise.
When the topic of homosexuality in the militaries of Ancient Greece is discussed, the Sacred Band of Thebes is usually considered as the prime example of how the Ancient army use homoerotic or homosexual relationships between soldiers in a troop to boost the fighting spirit of their militaries. These bonds, perhaps somewhat inspired by episodes from Greek mythology, such as the heroic relationship between Achilles & Patroclus in the Iliad by Homer, were thought to boost morale as well as bravery.

-FACTS-
Many philosophers wrote on the subject of homosexuality in the military as well as warriors.
Plato on the strength of male sexual bonds in this case being used to overthrow a tyrant in Athens.
When the love between Aristogiton & Harmodius grew so strong that it shattered their power.
Wherever, therefore, it has been established that it is shameful to be involved in sexual relationships with men, this is due to evil on the part of the rulers, & to cowardice in the part of the governed.
Phaedrus on the power of male sexual relationships to improve bravery in the military:
... he would prefer to die many deaths: while as for leaving the one he loves in a lurch, or not succoring him in peril, no man is such a craven that the influence of Love cannot inspire him with a courage that makes him equal to the bravest born Xenophon while not criticizing the relationships themselves ridiculed militaries that made them the sole basis of unit formation:they sleep with their loved ones, yet stations them next to themselves in battle ... with them (Eleians, Thebans) it’s a custom, with us a disgrace ... placing your loved one next to you seems to be a sign of distrust ... The Spartans ... make our loved ones such models of perfection that even if stationed with foreigners rather than with their lovers they are ashamed to desert their companion.
