It would appear from the outside that justice is not served. Indeed this is true. A case with so many facets is often not solved in a few weeks. The investigators will need to speak with people who had been in contact and known both the victim and the accused. Having been a resident of the Virgin Islands for 15 years, I have had the opportunity of seeing many such actions of this sort in the past. The character of the accused will come out in the investigation as soon as the people who know them feel comfortable talking to the authorities. This also stands true for the people who may have known the victim. The true character of the victim will become evident as people feel more comfortable speaking to the authorities. I am not about to pass judgment on the victim. But In my experience in matters of this sort I have found that the victim is often an antagonist in his own demise. I have many friends here and I myself frequent these same places with the same people. The people that I know who get into arguments and fights in drinking places all share one common characteristic. They cannot control their tempers when they drink alcohol, and they often get into arguments while intoxicated. While this does not justify the killing of a human being, intelligence and self control have helped myself and my friends to avoid situations like this one.
Well after much research this weekend, I have found that Jamie, "Captain Cocaine" may have been involved in some illegal activities. There have been references to him trying to start his own dealing ring. I have many friends both on St. Thomas and on St. John. Some of my friends own businesses in St. John and were familiar with Jamie. The Front Yard bar is known as a drug bar, and a place to find dealers. I, like many of my friends are well aware of this fact, and we avoid such places. I am very certain that there are known drug bars in and around Philly also. My references to his demise did in no way relate to his use of alcohol. Let everyone find out all the facts in this case before anyone is declared innocent. I believe that there is a great deal more to be learned about the victim. Due to the nature of the answers I also feel that people who have the answers will be reluctant to give them to the authorities. Doing so would expose these people to misdemeanor and or criminal charges. In short, the people who know what really happened are Jamie’s close friends that he partied with in St. John.

Well, well, well, look what we have here now. A rich white kid, grandson of a politician. Went to sailing school, moves to the Islands and is randomly murdered. The islands see about 40 to 60 murders per year with a population of just over 100,000 people. That is, lets see...50 divided by 100,000 is 0.05% chance of being murdered here. That is 1 in 2,000, what are the stats in your city? We also have a great deal of illegal immigrants floating in here at night by sea. The INS is overwhelmed with enforcement here. So we have an additional burden of violence from these people who are from very poor countries looking for work and not finding it. These illegals are now here, cannot work and are getting hungry for food. Crimes will then be committed in order for these illegals to feed themselves. If you attribute this to some of the murders here, and I cannot state facts, you stand a pretty good chance of not getting murdered here. I have lived here 15 years, and I have never had any one that I new, or even a friend of a friend that was murdered. So how is it that this young energetic white kid nicknamed “Captain Cocaine” http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm... (please see his MySpace site) from a well off town outside of Philly gets himself into a situation that is not so common here? And then how is it that all of a sudden the news is all over the murder of this poor innocent white boy from the states. Where were CNN and Larry King when the preschool girl was missing for days when her partially decomposed body was found stuffed into a plastic crate in an abandoned house near the high school?
http://www.virginislandsdailynews.com/index.p... Is it because the white boys granddaddy knows some people who will “go down there and get things done”?
Sorry for your loss, but please do not think that we here are a bunch of dumb island people. We see what goes on here, and we know how this story will turn out. This murder should not have happened, but do not think that your place is superior to ours.

Your comment makes me sick.

You also sound racist.

Anybody...i mean ANYBODY that stabs somebody 7 times is a killer, is a murderer.

Games over once you pull a weapon. Grow up,.

If it was then why wasn't anybody else injured or murdered?? Do you think he stabbed himself?

What a stupid question to ask.

It's not a stupid question. You do not know the facts. You are basing everything you say on what Mrs Cockayne says. Who's to say he did not pull a knife and they took it from him? You don't know do you? Just as much as you don't know anything other than the story she is telling. Simple.

Interested, I DO not base everything I know on what the Cockayne's and their lawyer have been reported, but since you obviously don't follow this case or read your OWN newspapers, the facts, maybe you would like some:

One Anselmo Boston has already confessed to hitting Jamie over the head with the pool cue because evidentially he had kicked his girlfriends car.

Then, Boston relates that him and "six-pack" chased Jamie to a hill near the texaco station and proceeded to murder him. This is from a man who was there, did the murder and is not turning into a witness.

There are also other witnesses to this attack, who couldn't or wouldn't stop the attack.
Also, are you aware that "six-pack" was arrested in 2004 for another knifing incident.

OK, for sake of your post. Say Jamie did have a knife, they take it away from him...then they stab him 7 times. That's Jamie's fault?

One of these murderers is telling the story as it most likely happened. That they killed him.

Why don't you stop blaming the victim and put the blame where the blame is.

Again, read "your" papers. You'll find alot of information there and it ISN'T coming from the Cockayne's.

It's interesting that the this message board started out as a plea to islanders to help them and then you try to make excuses for what happened that night.

You know the facts? Let me hear them.

i am so sorry for your loss ms cocayne.
the v.i. are much more dangerous than is commonly thought and the police are corrupt and even law abiding people are wary of them. some of them are violent and dangerous.
i hope that people reading this thread understand that the negative comments towards the victim come from either friends of the accused or business owners or people whose income relies on tourism. to the latter; you should be ashamed of yourselves. i am ashamed of you.
its obvious the whole system should come into review and the lazy, incompetant and corrupt fired. will this happen? it never has.

My comments are based on the reasoning that you can't try a case in the press. It needs to be done in a court of law. There, hopefully, all the evidence will be presented.
I sympathize with the family. I too have an unsolved or unanswered murder in my family. I have been reading these posts coming in from everywhere with folks talking what Mrs Cockayne has been stating as fact, and running with it creating a snowball effect. Let's see what happens in court.

Interested....

If you stuck to the facts of the case so far and what has been written in the papers, USVI papers, then maybe you would understand the case better. This information has also come from court records. Maybe you should look them up, after all if you're from St. Thomas, you have easy access to them.

You bring up the knife. You say maybe Jamie had the knife. Who the hell cares WHO had the knife. Jamie was killed and he certainly didn't kill himself. He was chased down. Witnesses have placed the suspects at the scene. Even one of the suspects has placed six-pack at the murder.

What happens in court? That's hysterical. IF there is a court date, IF they're able to keep the suspects on the island. IF the case hasn't been botched by incompetent police and detective work. IF the witnesses aren't killed, so they won't talk.

You've lost a member of your family to murder? You should know better then and not bring up such stupid things such as "who pulled the knife".

I've heard something like this before....remember the glove? He wasn't guilty either was he.

Interested, I believe you are contributing to trying this in the press. Unfortunately, it sounds like you are on the suspects side, instead of the victim.

The court of law in the USVI seems like a joke. This case has already been bungled by the police. I can't get over the fact that the police station was so close to this murder. I also can't get over the fact that if this "bar" is so well known for drinking, fights, drugs, that it hasn't been closed down.

If you have an unsolved murder in your family, maybe you should get involved and help the Cockayne family....may be good medicine for you. Tell all your friends down there to speak up about this murder. I'm sure alot of people know something, but out of fear are keeping their mouths shut.

Have you read that Ms. Cockayne not only wants to solve the murder of her son, but also other murders that have happened in the USVI's?

just for the record, intersted; since your comments are altruistic, would you mind stating if you are a business owner, or reliant on tourist dollars for a living?
i'm not implying that such people should not be entitled to their opinions, but i do feel it is a relevant disclosure.
ms cockayne is obviously in grief and her desire to find answers is understandable; perhaps you could cut her a bit of slack if you are so sympathetic?
this crime will be tried in a court and public commentary will continue, its unrealistic to pretend it would be otherwise.
it also appears her snowballs have had some effect in getting the v.i. police to arrest suspects. or is it in your contention it is meerly coincedance that immediately following her u.s. news coverage, arrests were made after weeks of inactivity by the police? should she remain silent and rely upon a justice system well documented in corruption, laziness and incompetance?
i'm sorry for your loss as well, though baffled by your comments which could easily have been worded otherwise without hurting the victim's friends and family.

I cant resist this, Jamie owned a leatherman knife and it was at the house in his room the night he was murdered. That is the only knife he owned and I only wish he had it with him that awful night. I don't think it would have helped since he was chased, ambushed, beaten and stabbed. U can believe what makes you happy. Try to think logically, if it was Jamie's knife and he was attacking someone with it, wouldn't they go to the police? Wouldn't his finger prints be on the knife?
