Totalitarian govs have always run propagandas of how their gov is the only answer to the need of the nations historical, economical and political needs. Hitler promises glory for a Germany in the Great Depression, still suffering the hummiliating defeat of WWI, angere, bittered and desperate,the Germans followed him into the most horrendous crimes in human history and devastating defeat that cut the country in 2. And CPV is not much different. In the bad days of French occupation, it promised freedom and prosperity, equality and fairness. But because of its non democratic 1 party policies, things just ran down the hill from then. It's because of them that the French reinvaded VN after having already planned to hand VN back to the Vietnamese people ( the commies had to be stopped from spreading, so the French were given the job in the Cold War since they have the most experience in VN). After a devastating war with the French, the commies led North VN into war with their brothers in the south. The Americans tried to protect the republic but unfortunately ended up losing. Bottomline was that what point did the war fullfill ? Unification ? At what cost ? Was all that carnage and blood really worh it ? Was it a liberation like those VC like to boast ? If the commie policies could build a strong north VN then why couldn't they let things be and do their things? Oh, because they didn't want their brothers to suffer from "American imperialism"? If the VC were spupid, obscure and naive back then they hell sure aren't now. Look at the rampant corruption going on ! Open your eyes, folks ! I used to live in Germany for 5 years but now I'm currently living in VN and it doesn't take much for a person that has not been brainwashed by all that propaganda to see how rich,deceptive and corrupt those bastards are. They can stuff themselves with cash and no one could do a damn thing about it! It's a one party state where everyone is happily united, where everyone regconises that VCP is the only guiding light, the sun, the warmth of the people, right ? Wait a minute, didn't the "dear Fuehrer" Adolf Hitler say pretty much the same thing ? That anyone who disrupts this unity would have to pay ?
So that's why critizing a leader would lead to jail, any other polital activities than those of the VCP are stricly banned. Religious activities are stricly monitored and need the govs approval and permission. Countless people are jailed out of perfectly harmless democratic and anti-corruption efforts. The economy was retarded for more than 2 decades and is still crawling today because of wrong models and management and zero capitalistic competion. To you folks out there who seriously think that's the right gov for the nation of VN, I advise you to look at Germany, the nation that made the worst mistake any nation could make, but then realised it and transformed into a democratic world power. The unification went on bloodlessly and the disaster had a happy ending. Another example is Korea. The North pursued a extreme form of Communism that resulted into the fact that that nation now is one of the top candidates for the title "Hell on earth". Whereas the South "suffered" from "American Imperialism" and prospered into a economic powerhouse in Asia. That's what the Republic of VN would evolve to if it had been spared of Communism. Instead now the vietnamese get a totalitarian gov that only "loosen up the ropes" for the sake of their parasitic existence instead of untying them. Remember, successful parasites may damage, torment and torture their hosts, but never kill them.
