VCs have killed/murdered millions of Viets very fast. But bringing prosperity/freedom/happiness to the mass is just a joke! http://www.nguoi-viet.com/absolutenm/anmviewe...

U.S. State Department U.S. Policy in Asia: Meeting Opportunities and Challenges John D. Negroponte, Deputy Secretary of State Remarks at the Brookings Institution Washington, DC July 28, 2008 "Our relationship with Vietnam has also entered a new chapter, symbolized by President Bush's visit to Vietnam in 2006 and the recent visit by Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to Washington in June. Our countries now enjoy significant and growing trade and economic ties; an emerging military-to-military relationship; successful cooperation on health and development issues; and growing cultural and educational links. Vietnam's remarkable growth over the last 15 years, which has lifted millions of its citizens from poverty, points to the transformative opportunities of the U.S.-led international economic order. Vietnam has followed a path to growth familiar to many of its successful neighbors: encouraging private enterprise, establishing legal institutions, and opening itself to global trade through membership in institutions like APEC and the WTO. And while we continue to urge Vietnam to strengthen its respect for human rights and religious freedom, we celebrate its people's rising prosperity." http://www.state.gov/s/d/2008/107500.htm http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/... http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/... http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/... http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2008/... http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2008/...

This is interesting. / Bill B Waterbury, CT |#268 No More lies spins a happy tale.... I fought with 2nd Bn, 501st Abn Inf., 101st Abn Div at Phuoc Yen then again at the Song Bo River 2 klicks NW of Hue. We had some popular force and "Black Panther" soldiers from the 1st ARVN Div with us and they were fucken worthless. Outside of ARVN Rangers and some Viet Airborne units - the rest were for the most part hopeless. The ARVN officers were more interested in shaking down their troops...the appointments to ARVN command positions were politically motivated and most didn't have a clue how to soldier or command and the rich Vietnamese sent their kids to Paris to spend time whoring while their less well off brothers were conscripted to serve in the ARVN. With all the training we gave them...all the weapons and ammo they couldn't hold out against the VC and NVA without us taking up the brunt of the fight. After 9 f!cking years wouldn't you think the ARVN would stand and fight. Maybe the other readers here would like to know what unit you fight with cowboy? http://www.topix.net/forum/world/vietnam/TKF4...
