"Police said Lap’s ring had ties with an ecstasy ring led by Vietnamese Australian Nguyen Tuan Khanh, who was arrested last month." http://www.thanhniennews.com/society/... ..... That's an unfortunate side to the Vietnamese community here. The thing is though, all roads lead to Vietnam. It's quite embarrassing to see that most of the news regarding the Vietnamese community here involves drug mules and drug production. However, it seems that a lot of those being caught are the later generations of people who are immigrating from Vietnam, especially those university students (sinh vien). They are really willing to do anything for that quick buck I would think. This again leads back to Vietnam's dependence on money for spending and their willingness to do anything for that money. The government's execution of one drug carrier only spawns out 10 more that they have to deal with. Cabramatta was considered a bad place in the 1990s but things have improved now considerably after strict policing of the area. However, I believe there is a new group of troublemakers who are coming from Vietnam in their droves. They tend to be North Vietnamese, which I guess is because their families back in the country have the connections and money to get their kids over here. Seriously, these people are wrecking it for the Vietnamese community over here. I still stand by my thought that within 20 years or so, the Vietnamese community here will be primarily North Vietnamese (1975 onwards type).

They should limit the amount of commies coming into the country and giving the Viet Kieu a bad image.

Well it's a democratic country. We don't seek out and persecute minority groups of people. Technically, we're all Vietnamese so you can't exactly stop everyone from coming in. A democracy is what most of the Viet Kieu who escaped Communist Vietnam wanted, and it's available here in Australia (as with in the US, Canada and other European/Western nations). The irony I would think is that the Communist Vietnam government despised those who supported Western countries, and either executed or imprisoned them. Now it seems that the North Vietnamese want to leave Vietnam in hoardes in search of a better place. They'll be willing to do anything to go to Western countries, and even also those Taiwanese and Korean places.

More Vietnamese-Australian people caught in Vietnam for drug trafficking. Guess what though, these people are those from the North and migrated to Australia by way of Hong Kong. They're really wrecking the image of the Vietnamese community here. On a positive note, with the recent World Youth Day events in Sydney, there was an incredible number of people waving the South Vietnamese "yellow and 3 red stripes" flag. These people came from all over the world for this Christian event, but I'm extremely proud to be a South Vietnamese with our flag surviving for the past 33 years, and still going strong. The CSVN wanted to use their yellow star/red background flag as the official flag for their people attending the ceremony, but we did not see it even once! The Vietnamese Community from around the world does not recognise that "blood flag". On Australian television news networks, you could see the South Vietnamese flag everywhere they filmed. It's things like that, that make me proud to be a South Vietnamese/Non-Communist descendant. A clip on the South Vietnamese flag that I've found: http://www.ebenedict.org/content/view/321/9/l...

By the way. I do regard those North Vietnamese who came into the South during the 1954 period as South Vietnamese. It's those from 1975 onwards, especially the younger generations, that I'm not happy with.
And yes, I do agree that the Vietnamese community here has it's problems with those who go against the law and do wrong acts, however I would be surprised if you could show that what is going on Vietnam is less severe. I do believe that those who are breaking the law should be punished accordingly. Welfare cheats, drug dealers, criminals. It's those new immigrants (especially North)that are bringing their bad habits to Australia as well though. I have to say that the South Vietnamese people aren't that wild, possibly even too scared, to do those wild things like drug trafficking. You hear news about people being executed and imprisoned for life, yet some people are stupid enough to be involved in those things. One thing to point out is, where are they getting those drugs from? Vietnam. It's all roads lead to Rome in this case, with the bad influences from Vietnam stretching outwards towards the worldwide communities. I have to say that this is one fight we can't win.

i rele think the reason why all the Viet Kieu hate going back to Vietnam because the government will arrest them for no reason or just make up some accusations and then bring the Viet Kieu to jail like my grandpa. My grandpa was a driver for Ngo Dinh Nhiem. But they just arrest him for working under Ngo Dinh Nhiem's government.

Do you know if the Viet Aus community has any plan to mitigate the bad and criminal behavior of the new Vietnamese immigrants from Communist Vietnam? I think there should be some kind of leadership that has to addressed this bad image portrayed by these newcomers. It is giving Vietnamese everywhere a bad image.

Unless your grandpa is a member of the current anti- VN organization like Vietnam Tu do party or Viet Tan party and returned to VN to contact with other members inside Vietnam in order to call people uprising. Let me figure out how old is your grandpa, let say he was about 28 when he was a driver for Diem in 1962. By now he's about 28 + 46 years= 74, so he is 74 year-old man. Your propaganda didn't make common sense. Do you know how mamy Vietkieu return each year? the answer is almost 300,000 a year. Just count only last 2 years, the total was 600,000 visitting Vietnam. I want to tell you Vietnam government doesn't have an extra national budget to feed the old people like your grandpa when he returns for a visit unless he did what I said a bove.
