Do you really think the Vietnamese wanted Ho to lead the country? ...Would they submit themselves to tyranny and death camps so they can enjoy the lives of a communist? ...No! They fled everywhere Communists appear. ...Because in the Communists' eyes, anyone who is educated was a traitor, ...anyone who had different ideas than theirs, ...anyone who had religion, land, some kind of assets, some kind of beliefs, who hold traditional values was a traitor to their cause, and therefore they must be dealt with with torture and death to the whole family, as an example for others. ...Please refer to the movie "Killing Fields" as an illustration of what was going on with Cambodie and Vietnam. ...It was never on the media because journalists were never allowed on the other side of the fence, weren't they? ...The only thing you could see is just what Americans and the South Vietnamese were oppressing to the poor farmers. And how Jane Fonda made herslef useful to the NVA. So please explain to me where Ho was a nationalist and a liberator? Zenom |

Thirty years after the fall of Saigon, Vietnam still struggles with poverty, corruption and Communism where the rest of the world around Vietnam has taken off. ...Thanks to Ho and his communists, all the intellectuals of the country are either in jail or fled out of the country, and 95% out of the 80M Vietnamese is in poverty and earn less than $500 per year. ...And you can vote and have some kind of freedon only if you were to join the Communist Party. The rest of the people won't be allowed to voice their fears and frustations. What kind of freedom and democracy is that? Zenom |

I talked with my landlord who had lived under commies from 1954-1982 in Ha Loi.
His father had some kids come to the home and had a meal. His father told the youngsters when he showed the bowl of water " Do you like want to drink pool (Ho) water or corn (Ngo^) water?" Of course corn water is cleaner and more nutritous...after that the father was jailed in labor camp for couple years and tortured there... His father was an interpreter for the Canadian team before 1954... (He implied that living under Ngo Dinh Diem. is much better than under Ho Cho Ming) Yes, Ho Cho Minh brought more terrors/no freedom, we can say worse than living under the French colonialism!

Thank you Zenom for your great posts. I learned a lot. I can see the descendants of Bac Ho have managed to follow us into freedom too but their lies and deceits are still the same. When they are out in the open of the free society, there lying days are useless.
I will never trust these people in a million years. I didn't live through the war years or under VC Vietnam but I know better than most the breed of the VC are the same no matter what year it is. There is no room for compromise with VC. |

The introduction, by editor Stéphane Courtois, states that that "...Communist regimes...turned mass crime into a full-blown system of government". Using unofficial estimates he cites a death toll which totals 94 million, not counting the "excess deaths" (decrease of the population due to lower than the expected birth rate). The breakdown of the number of deaths given by Courtois is as follows: 20 million in the Soviet Union 65 million in the People's Republic of China 1 million in Vietnam 2 million in North Korea 2 million in Cambodia 1 million in the Communist states of Eastern Europe 150,000 in Latin America 1.7 million in Africa 1.5 million in Afghanistan 10,000 deaths "resulting from actions of the international communist movement and communist parties not in power."(p. 4)
