It is hard to understand the views of the governments of Argentine and Uruguay. The plup mill of Botnia will be compliant with the strictest of environmental standards - a lot cleaner than any of the existing European pulp mills. Nevertheless, the authorities seem willing to listen to the ignorant but loud voices of populist demogogues. I wonder why? Are they just waiting for bribes or something?

So why these two comp. are not located in Finland.
I wonder.... Have you ever been in the Argentinean litoral?
Do you know how pretty nature is there?
If you did it looks like you forgot....
Too sad..

Gov. Busti is upset that the pulp mills were located in Uruguay, not Entre Rios. During his previous term, he lobbied for them to be in E.R. He is a worthless hipocrate, and Kirchner is useless. How does Kirchner expect to be taken seriously by Uruguay if he refuses to enforce Argentine law and remove the pickets from the bridges? Uruguay would be much better off leaving Mercosur and negotiating a free trade deal with the NAFTA countries and Chile.

This issue has become political and it shouldn't be. It should be based on strict environmental regulation (i don't quite understand why the pulp mill manufacturers won't release the exact specifications of the mills designs).

In Argentina we have a president who failed to say anything against the issue when the project was orginally submitted to him and is now leaping on a populist environmental bandwagon.

In Uruguay we have a president who oppposed the project when in opposition and then changed his view once in power.

What is a real shame here is that it is hurting the relationship between 2 neighbors at a time when Latin America has a unique opportunity to pull together and finally create a united block as a counter wieght to North American influence on the continent.

I completely agree, none of the countries seem to want to help Uruguay in Mercosur they should just look for other trade partners

As an Uruguayan the pulp mills should be allowed to be building in uruguay. They offered Argentina $150 million to buit it as they wanted more. Now that they gave it to Uruguay for the same amount, the Argentinaian are jumping up and down making all these wild comments and don'r have a leg to stand on. Fu*k the Argentianians
