Indeed, you have played straight into their hands by not completely ignoring the posts made by certain individuals. Just ignore them.

I am trying to work out what has gone on in this case because it now affects me and about 1000 other people in a completely unrelated matter because of the argument between the banks involved and the insurers who obviously dont want to pay.

As I posted earlier, the Law Society have now joined that action to prevent any losses arising from the alleged frauds being claimed from the SRA Compensation Fund. This is a matter which now affects the general public and the whole legal profession

You appear to be posting from Cambridge, I am not very far from you. Is it possible that you or someone who understands this case could send me an email and we could meet or have a telephone conversation?

By the way, Dominic Grieve, the Attorney General wrote an article about contempt of court in the internet age

I think those individuals that have wrecked this thread have done you a favour, I got bored after reading 10 pages, and I'm sure a judge would too, so it is unlikely to have any effect in court. Still be careful what you say, the provisions contained in the Contempt of Court Act start I understand from the moment of arrest.

Good luck on the 1st, I can only hope that soon we will see our dodgy solicitor arrested and charged and your case gives us some hope.

All those with a vested interest in this case should take careful note of this refreshingly rare, wise post. We all want a bit of justice so respect and adhere to provisions contained in the Contempt of Court Act.

yep insurance cover not worth a jot when insurers can aggregate claims. I am sure that clients are not aware of this and not many law firms either. the public policy point is how can you rely on a solicitor's undertaking when the law firm ultimately can't back it up

Yes, Hipp when there are lots of claims but if a solicitor is found guilty of fraud or conspiracy to defraud, if the insurers dont pay then the SRA Compensation Fund should. I say should because it is discretionary.

It would become a political hot potato though if the SRA failed to underwrite claims by members of the public or public authorities who had been parted with their money by the actions of a crooked lawyer.

I think it may become a political hot potato in the future anyway because you dont see many solicitors being brought before the courts and it would appear that like newspaper reporters/ editors have been in the past that they are a law unto themselves...until there is one day a catalyst that brings about a downfall of the whole profession. Whether the Godiva vs Traveller case is it remains to be seen but it is a clash of the titans and will almost certainly end up in the Supreme Court and get widespread press cover - both banks and insurers have far too much to lose and we know that neither of them like losing...
