Statistics Of Dallas Red Light Camera Citations

I was one of the 1873 persons from August the Greenville/Mockingbird red light camera alleged ran a red light. I cannot understand how they can legally operate this program. They have changed the timing of the yellow lights at this intersection to a time .5 seconds below the state mandates. I know this because I timed it the first time one of my friends was nailed with a ticket. The ticket also contains the information that person will not have an arrest warrent issued nor will it go on the driving record. The city of dallas pays $4,000 per camera and they were about half way less than the estimated revenue for the first year. Also the city of dallas is required to send 1/2 of the revenue to the state. This is compounded by the significant increase in rear end collisions that were seen wherever red light cameras went up. For example 90% in Lubbock (who has since scrapped the program). Heres how the math works

using the data at this site for July/August

47,966 x 75 =$3,597,450/2 =$1,798,725
Subtract the monthly maintenance fee of about $4,000 per camera. I used 100 cameras for the calculation

$4,000 x 2 =$8,000 x 100 =$800,000

subtract this from the revenue and you get $998,725.

What I don't know is how much the persons who verify the tickets costs. The computer systems to process the tickets. The office staff to maintain the mail-in and walk in tickets.

I just don't see how they are able to justify this.

My opinion, Red Light cameras and the like do nothing to promoting safety. Absolutely nothing but provide another convenient way to take money.

How interesting, if any of us visit Dallas (unlikely) we will bear it in mind.

It is pathetic how much people whine about having to follow the rules. There has been no increase of rear end collisions the statistics don't back that up.

When the light is red you stop. First thing you learn about driving. My three year old knows that.
