Plant's concert with Alison was a complete bore. His last couple solo discs & tours just the same sludge. Who is he kidding doing another solo LP

I really REALLY hope this story is true. As I have said several times on this forum he (Jimmy Page) should at the very least DO SOMETHING to continue what he did at o2, with or without Plant. The music is to strong to just let fade into the past (in other words make new music and tour). That would be easy to do if it didnt matter anymore, but it does. That music still has an incredible effect on young and old. Let Plant do the gig he "loves" so well, history will judge it compared with what he did with Zepp. I will say with total confidence they will say its total shit compared to Led Zeppelin.

Anythig except this election _ull _hit !
Bring that music on Brother ! |

The way Page junked out after '80 made me sick. We get The Firm with a great lead singer and it is all Firm material. Paul on Whole Lotta Love would have been awesome. Get Rodgers to front it. Plant is a doofus. His early 80's tour outfits in parachute pants and gay slippers with bozo set lists did it for me. Page had to tour with The Black Crowes because of Plant. I think he's fed up mansion sitting. Reform The Yardbirds with Rodgers, anything!

Led Zeppelin should do something with or without Robert!
Robert always has played with Zep Career!remember in 1975 with his car crash,1977,his son died. 1984,1992,yes but without JPJ....Robert should be replaced, and then he will notice the mistake he made...regrets will appear on him if Jimmy replace him. |
I think "Regrets will appear on him" If he spends the rest of his life waiting for Plant to come out and play. Plant is gone gone gone .LOL sorry couldnt resist. |
I think plant should finally get together with Pat Boone. It would be perfect for him. They could "how much is that doggy in the window", and "itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini", with "black dog", and "when the levee breaks" thrown in. pat could sing all the hard parts and robert could go around doing interviews about how much happier he is now, and how much more artistic and fulfilling his career has become. They could get T-bone burnette to produce a new studio album and maybe some commercials for the RNC. |

Judged:
1 Im quoting my own paragraph how lame. NO, its becuase i made big mistake. got t-bone mixed up in my head with another musican. different guy different vibe altogether. |

Hugh this interview is old as dirt (last spring) but it has T-BONE burnette saying some very intersting things, that I havent really heard before from someone reliable. i copy and pate in part: I worshipped Zeppelin, but I’d much rather see him do these things like the “Raising Sand” record where he’s trying new things and so obviously getting off on them. Yeah, he really is. And I’d love to see Zeppelin, too. Do you have any insight on that front? No, I really don’t. Just guessing - I think they’ll do something new. It might be a daunting task to go out night after night and re-create something that happened 30 years ago. This doesn’t come from Robert - this is just me putting myself in his shoes. To go out as singer, particularly, for months, years… it might be tough. Again, this is really just me, I only know what I read, and Robert and I have hardly talked about it at all. As I understand it, Jimmy Page has a bunch of new tunes written. God, that really could be something great, you know? One thing I can say for sure is that it’s been presented like a choice - Robert’s not doing Led Zeppelin so that he can do this. That’s not really the point. The point is that he can do both anytime he wants to. It’s about freedom for him. I hope they’ll come a time when they’ll get together and do something. http://blogs.phillyburbs.com/blog_index.php/... |

The world will be made whole when the Zeppelin come together one time more. All this other solo stuff is just feathers in the wind. The Zeppelin is where the Led is. Bring it all on home ...

Yes, it seems that rock music in 2008, is lost in the "darkest depths of mordor" ; > |

... been like that since about '79! |

I haven't seen Plant since the tour with Page and I think he ruined that with all that Indian shit. Dose Plant really think his stuff is that good? I grew up idolizing Plat thought he made Zepp but after all these years I now believe he has ruined it. However it is not Zepp without him. Page should get someone that can really belt the songs and do the tour. Call it The Zeppelin Experience. I lost all respect for Plant this was his last chance to do for the fans what the fans done for him. I now believe he is a true front man his EGO out weighs his common sense! I will NEVER buy a Plant disc or ticket again! I haven't since Now & Zen didn't even buy the one with Page cause Plant screwed that up too. I'll do the tour I been singing them songs for years I studied the way they did the live stuff all my life probably more than Jason(No disrespect). I've been watching and listening since I was 12 I'm 45 now and probably hit the notes better than Plant can now. I would never thought I would say that in my life but Plant has disgusted me to the point where if he changed his mind I say screw him. If this was his idea he would be on board. I think he is pissed that Page didn't jump to tour when they released How The West Was Won and the Live DVD. This was and is the last chance chance for a true Zeppelin tour THANKS Mr Plant for NOTHING!!!!!! |
Tough words John but I think you're close to the mark. This is Last Chance Corral. If it don't happen now it never will. And that will be a great shame for those fans who have been with 'em for 30 years and more.
Or it will happen and it will be a sorry asss geritol tour; no, you guys are right that it's now or never for something real. I'm kinda like the other guy though, I don't even care anymore about Plant. I'd rather see Jimmy, JPJ and Jason do something entirely new at this point. Yeah, I feel totally resentful to Plant for some of his comments and selfish attitude. This is Jimmy's band anyway. |
Can't argue with that point of view Mr Page. While Plant's crooning was alway part of the Zeppelin sound, the bottom line was that it was a gee-tar outfit. And so yeah, if the band minus Plant can get their shit together and play some great new toons then I'm all for it. In fact, if Plant's heart isn't in it then the music will be better without him. But it is a shame because his heart was always in it.

John I know where you and others are coming from with the "no zep without plant" thing.Emotionally, you have my sympathy. Musically I think your dead wrong. Obviously I dont believe plant is needed to make led zeppelin music. People that say he are thinking IN THE WRONG WAY: hear me out. They say that because mr plant sang thier favorite song, that it cant be sung unless he does it. Does that make any sense to you???? Its not only obviouly untrue, it rules out any possibility of creative growth.Thinking that way is completely self obsessed, self absorbed and wrong headed. I say (for the 10,000th time) PLEASE!!!! PAGE, JONES AND BONHAM, reform Led Zeppelin, find the right singer, and move forward with new material. I could be better than ever. It would be antithetical to the creative principle not to, and the creative principle IS THE LIFE pronciple. think about it hard gentlemen. |
.. but isn't that the problem facing all the old bands? Those which stick to the old repertoire do it to please the fans and that is good, but in terms of creativity they should be in most cases 30 years ahead of what they are playing.
Now in Zep's case, a mix of blues roots and rock is in many ways best not fucked around with too much. But even within those closed borders, there is ample space for creativity. The only solution is to bring new blood in, give them their apprentiship while the old hands are still around until eventually there is still Led Zep music being played to our children and it is still being played creatively. That is not a bad option if you consider what little quality rock has been produced since the old greats of rock faded away. |

I just wanted to say that you all just hit on something that I was thinking about as far as the quality of music nowdays... they can't possibly miss. The old formula of some revamped blues numbers combined with some new high energy material can't possibly go wrong.
$$$SUCCESS$$$ Based on just the dedicated fans of old they can't go wrong... add to that the next generation of zep fans that have been turned onto zep and it's a sure thing. Led Zeppelin will only be competing with Led Zeppelin. Anything they do will be highly successful... even without Plant. Creatively, Page and JPJ already know how to do this... if it doesn't happen it won't be for a lack of creativity or ability... it will be because of a lack of motivation or because of legal restraints on the zep thing. The 3 remaining members should seriously think about doing something entirely new. They will sound very much like ZOSO without even trying simply because they are Led Zeppelin. And as far as replacing Robert goes... Having a good voice (singing like Rob) is not nearly as important as being able to write the vocal harmony/melody of good song and every singer/song writer knows what I'm talking about. You can have an okay voice and still come out great if you know how to write music "for your voice." Any descent singer that sings the blues for Page and JPJ is going to sound kind of like Plant just by default... because he's singing for Led Zeppelin. They need to get a great singer and go on tour... or get a good singer/song writer and get on with even better things in the studio. That's what I really want to see... new material by the remaining 3 and any descent singer song/writer and I could care less about the name. Although as far as I'm concerned it was Jimmy's band and they should be able to keep it if they want to just like a thousand other bands that higher and fire singers or have them quit on em still keep the name. BRING ON THE MIGHTY ZEP!!! |
That was well said Pagey. I can only hope that SOMEONE close to them is reading threads like this. There are plenty of "no plant no zep" posts out there, but you might notice that they usually have the whiny, embittered, tone of a frustrated child.Your oberservation that "they will only be competing" with themselves is spot on and brilliant. Hadnt occured to me, but i believe youre right and, it would be hard for them to fail becuase they would get to choose the standard for success. I not only accept that Plants' contribution to zep is prolouge, but I EARGERLY CONTEMPLATE THE POSSIBILITES FOR LED ZEPPELIN WITHOUT HIM. This isnt a matter of settling for second best without Plant, but is the best move. And Plant has done it all hinself. After the way hes behaved, the comments hes made, the stance he's taken HOW COULD HE OBJECT to Zep moving on without him. Oh God, Please let it happen! |
