Hey Jim, You got about 45 days until a big announcement will be made. I'm glad in fact that I'll never be your boss, cause I'd end up in the street without a job like you. I give my regards to your wife and children. Good Luck!

SBS takes 15%-20% or more of an installers money! Thats right if you work for SBS as an installer you have to give them money for the work you do. I know most compaines do that and people that sub work out take a cut, but by the time the guy working on a house gets paided, half the money is gone to people who did nothing. Give the working man a break and cut out all the middle men.

I am worried where Stock is going. The problem is all the secrecy. No one is informed and rumors rum amok. Now we have 'about 45 days'....until what, I am not sure. I know Sept. 22nd will be Stock's year end reporting. It does seem that the company grew too rapidly and is now paying the piper, so to speak. Keeping a positive attitude can't hurt while we all wait to see the outcome.

Maybe you need some new glasses, Joe..., try some rose-colored lenses this time, or maybe just get a prescription that works for your eyes....One of the great things about Stock Building Supply is the health insurance programs with vision coverage! Did you know that negative energy is like a magnet of suckyness? Do yourself a favor and keep on the sunny side!

Wow Jim! Let me go grab a cross so that you can crucify me some more! You wouldn't happen to be Jewish would you? I'm just going off what I've been told. Some people Jim are very blessed to be told things by others in this industry who have a little insight on what is going to happen. It doesn't mean you will be out of a job, it means that Wolseley is doing what HD Supply did, get rid of their lumber division. HD sold theirs to Pro Build! Don't get your panties in a bunch just because you are a pawn on a chess board! Go flat stack the yard!!!

As for "just going off what you've been told", well, heck, ignorance is no excuse in the 21st century. You are right about one thing, though, and that is that I and the others who work for Stock Building Supply have no control over the corporate leaders who make the big decisions....no control except for being the very best at what we do. Mazeltov!

New to this forum but thought I would put my 2 cents in. You guys truly are the best at what you do; giving stuff away to the tune of a $300 million loss. It will be a great day for all of the other companies that actually want to survive this downturn when BFS buys you by the end of the month.

Of course you're right, all we do is give away stuff for free, just to annoy the little guys....and who the heck is BFS, anyway?

I talked to a probuild rep and thats what he told me. Hd Supply and Probuild are 2 different comanies.... atleast in North Carolina.

What it all boils down to is the simple fact that the housing market has been down now for 3 years in a row. You get to a point where you have to start thinking outside of the box and try to pick the business back up. Stock can get out of this hole by expanding the products and services each location is selling to get those numbers back up.

I am awed by the fantastic response-good & mostly bad- to this thread. Can anyone tell me why Builders Firt Source, ProBuild or even Home Depot are any better than Stock Building Supply? Why would it make any difference to any of these poeply if Stock is sold? They will still exist, even if under another banner-the company won't just go away. And how could that be better for anyone anyway? This downturn has hit most building material dealers who operate on a large scale. Last I heard, Stock took a smaller LOSS than any of the other top five pro dealers. Seems like everybody is dealing with the same adverse national conditions with mixed results at best.

I know people who think sbs is the greatest. I personally have had nothing but bad experiences with sbs and on the other hand I have had nothing but great experiences with pro build. I guess it depends on the sale person you get. Just a thought.

They lost alot of business because of customer service.

This thread may just turn out to be history and idle chit chat. With the government stepping in and bailing out Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae, it seems consumer confidence is slowly on the rise once again. If SBS can hold tight until after the elections, the economy may just take a sharp right turn. Albeit, this SHOULD be a major learning lesson for everyone. Houses will continue to be built and someone will have to offer the materials & service. The ones who have bucked up and faced the challenges the past several years will be the victor. This includes management down to sales.
