Krauthammer took the opportunity to make several false and/or unsupported assertions.
1) He claims Hillary took "a center position" at the start of the election. Wrong - taking a pro-war, pro-all-free trade agreements, pro-use of nuclear weapons pre-emptively, pro-big business control of federal agencies is a right wing position. 2) Characterizes the left as "loony": "She simply assumed the party activists and loony left would fall in behind her." Who was correct on WMD's, who said Iraq was going to be easy, why is Osama bin Laden, Al Zarqawi, Al Zawahiri, and Al Qaida still around 7 years later? The "left" and everyone else in the world said WMD's were a lie and Saddam had nothing to do with 911. The left was correct. The left was also correct on the impact of deregulation of the energy industry and global warming. The "left wing elitist" scientists prevailed over the right wing folks funded by Exxon Mobile. 3) He repeats the false characterization given by the National Journal, a right wing publication, that Obama is the most "Liberal Senator." These right wingers have never heard of Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, who a socialist. They also have never heard of Carl Levin in Michigan or Russ Feingold in Wisconsin. If the right wing ever actually followed politics objectively, they'd know that Obama has a generally right/center view on many economic and trade issues, and does not agree substantively with the left on health care and other social service spending. 4) "...man of the academic left, he is so out of touch with everyday America" I suppose everyday America to Krauthammer is growing up in an elitist neighborhood in Virginia or Connecticut to a wealthy political family, getting a free ride not based on merit to an ivy league school, and taking bribes on K street for a career. Alternatively for Krauthammer, a person who spends their lifetime studying legal and social policy, spending years as a community organizer in the south side of Chicago, working up from state government to federal government...somehow that is elitist to Krauthammer. Handshakes on K street - not elitist. Handshakes in the south side of Chicago - elitist. What a trip. 5) "she transformed herself into working-class Sally-get-her-gun, off duck hunting with dad." And somehow this Ivy-League, former board member of Walmart Hillary Clinton giving herself a fake identity temporarily, to deceive voters is a good thing? 6) On the gas tax: "Obama played his part by citing economists in opposing it. That completed her narrative: He had the pointy-headed professors on his side; she had the single moms seeking relief at the pump." Krauthammer suggests we need to ignore the overwhelming majority of economists on the gas tax issue. That's dumb. 7) "he is the out of touch, latte-sipping elitist" Since when does drinking a latte make you an elitist? Does Krauthammer have any idea how many starbucks chains exist throughout the entire country? Lots of people from every walk of life drink Lattes. They even have them in small towns and a couple in the inner cities. Of course, Krauthammer is so out of touch with American that he wouldn't know that. |

Wow- way to attack someone making "false or unsupported" assertions- by making even more "false or unsupported" assertions.

So, Mike, what did Joseph P say that was incorrect? Quoting some one without offering a rebuttal (as Mike did to Krauthammer) is not terribly convincing.

"Timing is everything" is a great truth but also the greatest excuse in politics. Unless you're perfect, you will make some mistakes but timing may not be the answer.
Hillary is not the fresh new face in presidential politics. We have been told since 1992 years she is, eventually, to be the president. She, at this point, is trying to carry more baggage than Santa Claus. She has tried to stay at the top, never retreating out of sight, for 16 years. Think about the most successful TV shows. How many got to 16 years? What did they look like their final season? Comparing serious politics with TV shows? Of course. What do you really think goes on at campaign headquarters? There was a song in WWII, "They're either too young or too old". That's your choice. |

In regard to a lot of things, and including such items as huge and supposedly unsurmountable leads in the battle for its presidential nomination, the Democratic Party is the FAD OF THE MONTH CLUB, and as such people as Edmund Muskie and Howard Dean discovered before Hillary did.
And due to my having a few decades come to the realization that the Democratic Party was and is THE FAD OF THE MONTH CLUB (in my younger and more naive days I myself was actually a hardline Democrat), therefore I was not surprised that Hillary's earlier huge and supposedly unsurmountable lead a few months later had turned into nothing more than ancient history. |

The left is "looney" because it espouses nothing but class warfare and transfer payments from the wealthy to the more deserving workers. This theme is based on the idea that nobody is rich due to hard work or being smart or taking risk - instead its always due to racism or insider dealing of some sort. The liberal elite is all about re-dividing the pie instead of growing it. Look at the silly way the Democrats divide delegates in the primary. These people cannot design a workable primary system and we want them to lead the country? Obama or Hillary will be a diaster if elected president.

I suppose if Hillary was running around with the middle east with Senator leiberman and singing"Bomb Iran " songs, old charlie would be leading the way to get her elected. I still don't understand how people can believe we will ever have middle east peace without holding isreal responsible for their actions.

That's right he is cleaver! He'll cut you up! Tea bag him Hill. |

Hey "Yeah Right" - you missed the point of the article. I don't think he was slamming Hillary as much as he was pointing out where the strategy failed.
Secondly, what actions should "isreal" be held accountable for? For taking a stand against having busses with innocent passengers blown up on their city streets? Would you be okay with the Damen Avenue bus blowing up, and not trying to find and punish the perpetrators, even if they were from Canada or Mexico? Israel faces terrorism on a daily basis, from an enemy that is a lot harder to identify amongst their general population. How would we (the US) deal with this situation? How many cafes, malls and dance clubs would have to be covered in blood and gore before we expected the government to protect us by hunting down the bad guys? Israel has lost a larger percentage of it's population to civilian-targeted terrorist acts than any other civilized nation. How much longer should they wait for the UN to take action - the same UN that has the Sudan as a member of it's "Human Rights" committee???? |

Hey, HLz -- "Israel has lost a larger percentage of it's population to civilian-targeted terrorist acts than any other civilized nation"?
What do you mean by "civilized nation"? |
