Woman fined after man's death

Wow. One would think that due to her knowing he didn't normally take methadone (regardless of the facts of his taking her purse), that she would have realized he was close to death? Humanity is deteriorating and this is a sad case to prove it.
To steal her purse was wrong most surely, but for her to be so meagerly charged and fined due to what was in the purse and knowing how lethal it could be to opiate intolerant people, is just leaving me shaking my head. What is even more sad is that his death was seen as "just another drunk" gone.

Those are the two things I thought about when reading the article too. Why would the woman not have one ounce of concern for the man's life, even though he stole her methadone? I don't understand that. Instead of reacting that way, why couldn't she have alerted the police? I mean, if she was able to track him down, that would have been the route to take. At least then she could have MAYBE went back and explained the situation with someone to back her up...
But, then there is the "just another drunk gone" thing where she might have decided ahead of time that there was nothing that could be done to get her methadone back legally, as a result of the lack of compassion according to the article. And just decided to forego calling the cops. It's a sad occurance, no matter what...

To struggle daily with life without my son is hard enough some days. To imagine struggling with an addiction along with it is terrifying at best. I am so thankful I am not stricken with the desire to choose that path, thankful every damn day.
The world has become one huge drug induced scary place. Indeed.
