Britain to import over 5,000 Paki Butchers

Over 5,000 butchers from Pakistan will be offered employment in the halal meat industry in Britain, it has been announced.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between National Halal Foods Group (NHFG) in Britain and the Overseas Employment Cooperation of Pakistan, signed at the Pakistan High Commission in London on Friday, has cemented the deal.

The Farm Animal Welfare Council (FAWC), which advises the government on how to avoid cruelty to livestock, says the way halal meat is produced causes severe suffering to animals and should be banned.

The Muslim religion demands that slaughter is carried out with a single cut to the throat, rather than the more widespread method of stunning with a bolt into the head before slaughter.

Peter Jinman, president of the British Veterinary Association, is on record as urging Muslims to be respectful of animals.“We’re looking at what is acceptable in the moral and ethical society we live in,” he said.

The FAWC said it wanted an end to the exemption currently allowed for halal meat from the legal requirement to stun animals first. It says cattle can take up to two minutes to bleed to death — amounting to an abuse of the animals.

“This is a major incision into the animal and to say that it doesn’t suffer is quite ridiculous,” said FAWC chairwoman, Dr Judy MacArthur Clark.

Compassion in World Farming backed the call, saying:“We believe that the law must be changed to require all animals to be stunned before slaughter.”

I have taken the liberty of forwarding this information to the Mail - the Telegraph and Migration Watch to see if someone can get to the bottom of what exactly 'over 5,000' may mean in practice. We all know that 'over 5,000' in Nu Labour speak could mean 10,000+ and as we can assume that these butchers will be bringing their families also - a rough calculation would suggest that upwards of 50,000 could be arriving, financed by a barbaric practice that should be illegal in any civilised country on the grounds of animal cruelty.
It kind of spits in the face of Labour's assertion that they have a new attitude to immigration.

Regardless of what the National Halal Foods Group and the Overseas Employment Cooperation of Pakistan believe they want they would have to make an exceptional case to the Migration Advisory Committee, who advise the Government on what skills are required in the UK. The Government, on the strength of the Committee's advice, would then decide what Work Permits could be issued. Given the Prime Minister's speech today and yesterday about immigration it is difficult to imagine they would allow such huge numbers of halal butchers to come to this country. The UK organisation would, no doubt, be told to train some of the hundreds of unemployed Pakistanis already in this country.

They are not, therefore, a matter for UK Government Policy unless you advocate withdrawal from the EU which is, of course, a completely different debate.
