It has been reported that Gordon Brown sent a personalised letter of sympathy to the family of a dead soldier. He happened to spell the dead soldiers name wrong in the letter. In my opinion, this is not only an insult, but also shows that he has very little compassion. What are your views on this????

If I were mourning a loved one it is just possible that the last thing on my mind would be looking for f*cking spelling mistakes.

Excuse me- If you had lost a loved one from fighting for ones country. Then the leader of the country writes to tell you he is sorry, if he is genuine in this letter. He would have made sure he spelt the name of the dead soldier correctly.
If your honest, any parent, grandfather, child who has lost their family this way always blame the leaders- because of course its their instructions why they are there in the first place. So from the mothers point of view her son is just being treated as an number, a figure - not a life not a person, non important.

I would expect you to show some compassion and respect!!!

you are an idiot. Brown has poor eyesight and bad writing, and his staff should have checked the letter first. Usually they send a typed version as well. Very few PM's have ever sent hand-written messages to widows - all they got in WWs 1 and 2 was a telegram from the War Office. I don't like Brown's policies, but this whole attack on him is outrageous. Don't forget that soldiers are expected to face death and die if needed. It wasn't his mother who joined the Army, it was him.

Who's even talking to you sour breath. We could not expect no sensible logical input from someone who has very little knowledge except when he watches programmes like Tom & Jerry. Get into the real world. If Brown has poor eyesight then he should have a secretary or someone to do it for him/or if all else fails go and visit and give them a personnel visit or a phone call. Goodness sake she has just lost her son (for your sorry ass) he needs to learn compassion. As for you- you need to check your medication and go to sleep!!!

But he DID show compassion by writing personally to her! he can't have "checkup for poor eyesight" - he is blind in one eye and the other is failing. If he had sent a typed letter then idiots like you would be saying he should have sent a handwritten one. Criticise his policies by all means, but these personal; attacks are all wrong. And what right have you to complain anyway? you aren't even really British.

The real upset should be that soldiers and many other people have had to die for the lies of corrupt politicians and their corporate masters.

The fake 'war on terror' perpetrated by the Neocons, reminds me of a bad version of a Scooby Doo cartoon..... where Scooby and the kids meet the person(Neocons) who is scared out of his wits about the scarey monster /ghost. Scooby and the kids are determined to investigate to find out who is this scarey monster only to find out all along it was the man......

Someone wrote in to the BBC commenting that he had the same problem as Gordon Brown due to eyesight difficulties. A relative of mine complained to me that he found my type-written letters ‘a bit impersonal’. It seems that people make few allowances for other people’s perceptions, emotional or practical.

The loss of a child is very tragic and the mother’s reaction is understandable. If we are being judgemental, a supportable view is that she made more of a fool of herself and has more to regret than Mr Gordon Brown but then, who are we to judge? It is between her and him.

Britain will not be a better place if, when people strongly disagree with government policy, they make personal attacks on MPs and the PM that are uncalled for, unhelpful and indiscriminate. Policies, not personalities. Arguably, it was a poor use of Mr Brown’s time to write that hand-written letter. Now there is evidence to support that view.
