I am 35yo American Scottish/English origin and I am shocked over some of the posts. I was introduced to the Armenian culture by my girlfriend, who will one day be my wife! My girlfriend’s family is intelligent, giving, caring, strong and Great Americans.

Everything I’ve learned about the Armenian People leads me to believe they are one of the greatest Ancient Civilizations. Their story begins with a mountain named Ararat lying in the highlands surrounding the Biblical mountains. A man in their story named Noah, according to (Gen. 8:4), had an Arc that came to rest on the great mountain. Noah was then ordered by God to prepare his Arc for a great flood.

In 40-60 A.D. two of Jesus' twelve apostles, Thaddeus and Bartholomew preached Christianity in Armenia between 40-60 AD.

In 301 A.D. they are the first country in the world to adopt Christianity as its official state religion, ten years before the Roman Empire granted Christianity an official toleration under Galerius, and 36 years before Constantine the Great was baptized.

In the late 1800’s the Armenians faced pervasive discrimination. The discriminization led to organized state-sponsored massacres against the Armenians between 1894 and 1896, resulting in an estimated death toll of 80,000 to 300,000 people. The Hamidian massacres, as they came to be known, gave Hamid international infamy as the "Red Sultan" or "Bloody Sultan".

The 29th day of May 1915 the Ottoman Empire passed a law which trigged the worst senseless extermination against a people the modern day world has ever known. This chapter in the Armenian story has become known as the Armenian Genocide I believe. 650,000 to 1.5 million Armenians were slaughtered during this time.

I believe it is then my girlfriends ancestors had two choices, either leave Armenia or be terminated. I sure am glad they didn’t stay. Living without my Beautiful, Strong & Independent Armenian Princess would have been to have never lived at all!
