Isn't the idea that "many ethnic Russians living in Crimea, see the ceremonies as an important continuation of Soviet tradition, and the Black Sea Fleet as a guarantor of their safety against ethnic Ukrainians and Tartars also living in the region " wildly off the mark? Is it really about about safety? Isn't it really about maintenance of Russian hegemony. Isn't it about about keeping the hope of renewed Russian colonialism alive?

I often wondered to myself why Russia would want the Blac Sea Fleet anchored at Sevastopol, as it would be so easy to block the channel into the Med., as it is only about 80 miles wide, and could be mined in less than 30 minutes with todays technology. Then it hit me, the Russians have invested millions into a huge cavern blasted out of solid rock for the Nuclear Submarine base. They do not have any where to move these Submarines at this time, and do not want them docked in the open. I understand that they are negoiating with Turkey for a new port. I can understand both sides of this controversy. It was surprising that USMarines took part in the parade at Sevastopol as this has never happpen in Sevastopol for the past 200 years or more. :-)

I'm just happy to the US military involved in something like real peacekeeping for a change.

So, how many submarines the Ukrainian fleet has? One which is sinking gradually since 1991...

No doubt about it --the US Marines would have been a real hit and as a result this event turned out to have a "Ukraine in NATO" and "Ukraine in transition" message.

Are submarines a real achievement - or is the growing of Ukrainian sovereign democracy and dignity more important at this moment?

Sovereign democracy is important alongside with economic prosperity which does not exist in Ukraine. MOreover, everything goes down in terms of economy, population, etc. Soon Ukraine will live like Zimbabwe and you morons will repeat like parrots the words about democracy in there. And which dignity are you talking about when Ukraine like a prostitute goes under the US? By the way, I am not talking about Ukrainian people, I am talking about that moron president who is supported by less than 10% of the population and who can't represent the nation now.

Isn't this post just another excellent example of malicious racist Russian chauvinism against Ukrainian sovereignty and independence so prevalent in Russia today?

Russian chauvinists try to besmirch the heroic Ukrainian Insurgent Amy that fought for Ukraine's sovereignty, self-determination, independence, human rights and democracy against both twin evils of German Nazis and Russian Bolshevik.

Do Russian chauvinists forget inconvenient truth that Russians fought for German Nazis in units like the Russian Liberation Army of German Waffen SS....?

Why don't Russian chauvinists talk about their own Russian Waffen SS?

You are correct. The blossoms from the Orange Revolution have fallen off a long time ago. That pock faced idiot Yushchenko and his gang of thieves know nothing of democracy and they are certainly tripping over their clumsey feet trying to be the lapdogs of the U.S. Of course, the U.S. will throw them a few scraps on occassion and they will continue to salivate.
Ukraine will soon be divided into the East and West unless the Ukes get rid of the current ruling clowns.

Yushchenko is not Democracy, the Ukrainian people are democracy. Long after Yush is gone, the people will still have their democracy, with a new face and new ideas.

Meanwhile in Russia they will have new tanks, ships and airplanes. But no good roads, housing, plumbing and infrastructure. They will have structure and order, but no basic freedoms.

You can choose which one you want, but I choose freedom every time, because it makes me the master of my destiny, not some corrupt official or oligark.

Typical Ukrainian Nazi anti-Russian propaganda from Jampa.
The Ukes are certainly lapping up the 93 million dollars U.S. annually from Russia.
