Russia's chauvinism is deeply entrenched in the Russian Orthodox Church, and so long as Ukrianian Orthodox are subordinate to the Russian Orthodox Church, old colonial attitudes will persist.

Although spirituality and religiosity are to be encouraged in Ukraine, the Ukrainian government and state should be strictly secular, so that the playing field is absolutely level for every Ukrainian whether Hindu, Buddhist, Moslem, Pantheist, Theosophist, Jew Atheist, or any other creed.

As an American, I will always support the principle of religious liberty.
As an Orthodox, I find the notion that some other faith for the Ukrainian people would be "new and better" utterly ridiculous. The Ukrainians have done just fine with 1020 years of Orthodoxy, and they don't need Western Protestants or Uniates to "show them how its done." I'm sure the Russians will agree that they don't need that either.
Hmm, 1020 years of the same church, is that freedom of religion? Could be, but it sounds more like a controlled population. What are we afraid of, by allowing other religions to grow in Ukraine or any other country. I think the U.S. has a really good program with over 50 different types churches offering differing doctrines. It is exciting and if one does not like a partictular doctrine being taught, that person can relocate to another church wihtout fear of being blackballed or critizied by anyone.
