Isn't this kind of dialogue counter productive for Russia? Russia is just giving Ukraine REASONS to join with Putins statement that Ukraine is a non-state and now Russian MPs claiming Crimea.

I think if Russia would quit trying to threaten and bully her neighbors there would be no push to join NATO. But given these comments and the future ones that are sure to follow, no one in Ukraine could do a better job of justifying the need for NATO membership than Russian politicians. In fact I encourage these comments and just shut the gas off already, it just pushes Ukraine further and further away from the Russian sphere.

The Soviet Union was a criminal regime. Therefore, all laws passed by it are null and void, including the passing of the Crimea from Russia to Ukraine.

You can't have it both ways. There's an old saying in these parts that "Those who'd have their cake and eat it too end up with egg on their face."

It is only you humble opinion. Try to defeat us and claim USSR anyhow. Somebody tried.

Russia is a bully as a nation because its leaders like Putin and his gang are bullies. They are bullies because they were hand picked by the KGB to be ruthless bullies. It's in their genetic makeup. Thay have been prescreened for it.

They can't change very easily any more than a school yard bully can change.

They are excellent manipulators and con artists.

They will feign civility and friendship to gain advantage.

You can definitely count on their psychopathy, their Russian imperial mindset, their Russian racist supremacism, to trump any notions of friendship and kindness to Russia's neighbors.

The very idea that every tenth Russian voted for an ultrafascist like Zhirinovsky, who espouses the bloody re-conquest of Ukraine, should tell NATO something.

Russia grew as large as it is by military conquest.

Expansionism is key symptom of the grasping Russian mindset of domination.

It explains the threats to reabsorb and re-annex Ukraine and Georgia former colonies of Russia.

Russia's recent shameless attacks on Ukrainian sovereignty and statehood would be reprehensible and outrageous in any other setting --but is considered "normal for Russians."

Putin's spin doctors in Russia express the view that Ukriane's membership in NATO is 'highly unlikely', precisely because NATO membership ‘threatens the country's existence’.

The fact is Russia has threatened, Russia continues to threaten, and Russia will continue to threaten Ukraine's existence.

Psychopaths are very resistant to change and treatment so don't count on Russia's leadership to change any time soon.

Assassination, murder, coercion, military adventurism are their stock in trade.

Russia is seeking excuses to threaten splitting and invade Georgia and Ukraine.

That's why the NATO military alliance membership is an important objective for Ukraine.

Appeasement does not work when dealing with schoolyard bullies.

Appeasement does not work when dealing with workplace bullies.

Likewise appeasement nor will it work with Putin or his neofascist Russia.

Assertiveness does work on bullies; therefore NATO, Georgia and Ukraine, as well, as others bullied by Russia must stand up for their sovereign rights and act assertively.

This is why Georgia and Ukraine are asserting their sovereign rights to join NATO if they so choose.

Fine, how far back do we go then? Would you like the Russian empire restored to pre-Revolution status?

I guess Russia should give the Kuril Islands back to Japan since they were taken during the Soviet Union as well, according to Mr. Paines reasoning.

Russia and Ukraine formally signed an official agreement (1997ish) that stated that Russia formally recognizes that Crimea is part of Ukraine. In return Russia was granted access to the Black Sea base and other lands until 2017.
Reneging on this agreement would be paramount to a declaration of war.

Oh, let's not forget Kaliningrad either. In fact, lets just restore Prussia, since both the Nazis and Soviets were criminal regimes (But of course Imperial Russia wasn't correct?)

Why is Russia obsessed with Russian ethnic purity?

Why can't Russia tolerate ethnic Russian minorities in other countries?

Why does Putin believe all Russians must live in Russia?

Why does Putin believe Ukrainians of Russian ancestry would even want to live under a neofascist Russian regime?

Your clueless. Poland was never close with Russia other than the Russian installed Polish puppet government in post WW2. Russia deported and massacred hundreds of thousands of Poles. Google "Solidarity Movement".

I see history classes in China are for the most part still a waste of time. Hopefully one day soon you will get internet that isn't censored by your government so you have a clue as to what's going on in the real world, not the one according to Chinese government approved websites.

The current russian dictatorship is also criminal.
The difference is just that the soviet dictatorship has evolved to just another form under puking putin..But, russia will never be able to compete with the democratic nations of the world. It will always remain a 2nd rate country unless it changes to democracy which it won't. The russians just love to be told what to do by their leaders. Who in their right mind would want to live in a dictatorship, except sheep..Ba, Ba..black sheep!!!!

Hey Jacko!!! Sounds to me that you are quite an un-educated piece of crap yourself! Being from the land of liberal and socialist snakes, I bet that you are the first in your family to walk erect and use fire. Now, when your brain stem becomes more developed, perhaps you will learn to think like a grown up humanize, you ugly idiot!!!!
