Not only does neofascist Russia refuse democracy, it tries to crush it elsewhere like in Georgia.

Cheney Calls for Ukraine Unity to Meet Threats, Backs NATO Bid
By Roger Runningen and Daryna Krasnolutska

Sept. 5 (Bloomberg)-- U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney called for unity in Ukraine to meet potential threats following Russia's five-day war with Georgia, and renewed U.S. backing for the former Soviet republic's bid to join NATO.

``Ukraine's best hope to overcome these threats is to be united -- united domestically first and foremost, and united with other democracies,'' Cheney, 67, said after talks with Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko in the capital Kiev.

Ukraine is the third Russian neighbor Cheney has visited this week on a mission ordered by President George W. Bush to assert U.S. interests in the area and to assure regional leaders of American support after Russia's military incursion into Georgia last month.

Ukraine, divided by language and politics into a Russian- dominated east and Ukrainian west, became a source of increasing concern for the West after Russia rolled over Georgia's army and recognized the breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner of France, which holds the European Union's rotating presidency, said on Aug. 27 that Ukraine and Moldova may now be ``Russian targets.''

Yushchenko, 54, has steered Ukraine, a conduit for natural- gas and crude oil exports to Europe, toward membership of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the EU. The military alliance agreed in April that Ukraine and Georgia will eventually become members, while refusing to put their bids on a fast track.

`Urgent' Bid

Yushchenko said Ukraine's bid to join NATO ``is really urgent,'' and that expansion of the alliance to the east ``will be an ensured factor of stability in the region.''...

Its very hard for Russians who have never known democracy to understand the dynamics of democracy in Ukraine and Georgia.

Russians fear what they don't understand.

Russians hide behind the simplicity of neofascist authoritarianism.

Its much easier for Russians to understand one man rule --puffed-up, peacockish, psychopathic Putin's rule.

Democracy is dangerous to Russian imperialism.

Democracy is a protective factor for truth --and this is why the truth about the Holodomor---Russia's cunning genocide of colonialism--is finally being told.

I see what you mean. Why do innocent people from the former Soviet republics think that everything is wondefu and perfect here, just because westerners tell them that?

There are a lot of abuses here as well.

Ah Bloomber.com . high mucky muck of the stock exchange who of course is interested in Ukrainian democracy and happieness. What a load of horsecrap.

It is the oil pipelines and control of them that the west is interested in and hoping that Ukrainians will be too naive to understand this.

Ukrainians beware of NATO and the orange revolution, designed to make the Ukraine a lapdog of the Wests bankers who are only interested in how to get their hands on the oil and gas in Russia and it allies.

NO NATO IN UKRAINE, SAY NO TO NATO.

The Nato - USA sponsored adventuristic wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have convinced most clear thinking Ukrainians that they do not want to belong to such an absurd association as Nato. Ukraine's graveyards are full of monuments to Ukrainian soldiers killed during the soviet era's war in Afghanistan . Ukraine would do well to patch up relations with Russia and be a good neighbour to Europe . EU yes , NATO no ! I guess Ana slept through the Vietnam debacle fueled by the miltary -Industrial complex in the US and believes everything that the American media says .!

I didn't sleep whrough the VIetnam debacle, I was a newborn baby in Ukraine if you must know. But I surely was awake when KGB called my father once a month to have a "chat" and every time my father left the house he would say to my mother:" If I don't come back you know what to do..." I was awake when my mother was fired from her teaching job by russian director of the school because my brother was a student in Seminary. I was awake when KGB called me for questioning about my activities in Highschool.
I think Ukrainians have nothing to patch up with Russia. We were never a bad neighbour to anyone! We never colonized anyone, never opressed anyone, never commited genocide against any nation. It is up to Russia to get a grip and finally realise that Ukraine is not a colony anymore and it is in Russia's best interest to keep things civil and without threats. It is up to people of Ukraine to decide what kind of derection we want to take and and we are not interested in Russia's or anybodies opinion on this matter what so ever.

This president is what NATO wants lol? Yeah clearly democratic. If it is between this type of a democracy and what Russia has. I’d much rather go with Russia. This president is nuts and accuses his competitors of treason for their opinion??? This is the type of man my government supports? If the US and NATO keep supporting this jerk after this, it will be a clear indication that US is trying to box in Russia and is not doing it for any MORAL reasons but to simply prevent an emergence of a new global competitor.

Sit there in your Ivory Tower and tell us what Ukrainians are thinking. You are full of meadow muffins. I was recently in Ukraine. Compared to the attitude when I was there two years ago, I see a dramatic shift toward the west and toward NATO. Keep posting your crud, those who look for facts will ignore you.
