No, Sol Man is a taxi driver and uneducated, not me BOY. As for you,I guess that makes you a toilet cleaner in Indiana. Stop passing judgement on people you have never met. Now go back to your kyeyo cleaning toilets or plucking turkeys or whatever it is that you do. |

surely sol-man should understand how indians treated ugandan after indepedence. there was atmost discrimination from indians, they had their own school, streets, restuarants and so on. not that was an excuse for that but truth be told these indians never considered themselves ugandans or if they did then were of higher class than the black ugandans. if they at all they considered themselves ugandas, they ought to have done better and mix up with the locals.
|
Utter drivel! Read comments made by Dattani, DAK and others. After independence there was africanisation policy and some multi-national applied it against Asians who had opted for ugandan citizenship. As to the restaurants, it is a matter of taste. Anyone could go to Indian restaurants if they liked the taste. Uganda Asians (or Indians if you prefer) were not one homogenous group and they themselves did not mix with each other groups. Some educated had diverse friends but others were happy to live (too busy to think about going out of their normal lifestyles) amongst their own sub group. This was , I suppose same with the black Africans. "Mixing" means different things to different individuals. In Uganda, i met a Scotsman who was very religeous minded and did not mix with those who did not belong to Presbyteranian church. And why not? His freedom! |
|
Diverse Asians in Uganda were not even 1% of the population in 1971. There were a couple of sugar barons and then small industrialists (ginners, oil refiners), wholesalers, teachers, civil servants, big company employees, many small retailors in countrside and in towns, slum dwellers in Kiseyni, poor in Bakuli, etc. They all did not speak one language. Few in Uganda had labout origins but most had farming or businees origins. First ones arrived in E Africa to service the labourers. 205 labourers stayed in Kenya and sprinkling in Uganda. However, the retailors spread out to buy the cash crop and sell items to the locals. |
|
Exactly my point DAK. My family was indeed involved in ginneries, oil mills and tourism. As for the teachers and administrative personnel were concermed, 99 percent were 'imported from India as far back as the 50s. They had absolutely no intention of staying in Uganda forever. Those who were there in during the expulsion all went back to India. The Muslims whether from Pakistan or India made a deal with Amin through their muftis and hence were allowed to stay on. The Indians thrived because of their work ethic and sheer thrift. As for integration why should they have intermarried? Go to Forest Gate in London and you will see 1000s of Ugandan kyeyos all sticking to their own. Finally, please don't judge us all by a rabid racist like Sol Man. He left Uganda at age 13 and was fed stories by his parents of this land of milk and honey where money grew on trees. He knows nothing about Uganda. Africans should also try and learn as to what happened to Uganda once Amin and his blood thirsty Kakwas took over. |
|
I did not write "205" labourers. So I have corrected matters above! |
|
What exactly do you think your Bahima/Nyarwanda masters are doing to other tribes in Uganda today? Bagandas have been picked up and beaten up right in their own backyard for the past 4 days. You Africans need to get a life. All you want to do is kill each other all day and blame us Muhindis for it. And please don't start your Colonialism and Imperialism bullshit. Enough. |

1 The research institute where I work;there I have 7 young Indian researchers, and 3 African PHD candidates. often to my observation I have seen is that the people from both the nationalities go out of their ways to help each other. One day I asked each of them "tell me does it look same as it is shown on TV about Africa and India?" The Indian guys looked at the Africans and the africans looking back and nodding heads to speak out; and the Indian guy I knw said;" Sir, its false, the media picks up all the negativity and never shows you the ray of hope!" I also asked the Indian guy if he would ever marry a German girl, he straight away said; "no! I wont!" when i asked him why? he said " well, no offense intended on any race, but, I have seen that its a cultural thing, my mind set can be understood only by an Indian girl" Another Indian guy is mad about his girl. he has her pics as his desktop everywhere. |

1 They never, however, understood the vast cultural gulf viz a viz one wife one husbannd etc. It never happened and never, ever will. The morals are totally different. Just look at Uganda's Red Pepper where all day they talk about Kandahars, shafting, drilling,bo nkmate, dropped a tot etc. Every woman in Uganda seems to be a play thing to be bought with cash. Not so with Indians. Take it or leave it. |

I am an indian and i was born in Koboko uganda. My family were one of those 60,000 who came to uganda under the british passports and there were also many indians with ugandan passports and citizenships. Most of the africans who are posting their comments here live in the west and they really don't know what happened during the 70's in uganda. The facts really hurts because no one knows how many indian people died. My family lived in a 9 acre industrial site with my father incharge of one of the enterprise. When Idi Amin started the economic war in 1972, my mother was one of those people killed, she was brutally raped and killed by the locals. Yes the only reason you people give is that we do not mix with you. Let me ask you guys a question, why do you people want to mix? why do you hate yourself, infact why cant you work hard and come up in life? We lived through a nightmare when we were asked to leave because there was no law and order, the local ugandans just massacered and looted the indians. Many women who were fleeing to other countries were raped. The indians who came there were'nt well off, they worked hard. We indians have built uganda just like any other local ugandan. We have helped your country in every field, we have helped your country to build better infrastructure, but still we were denied a decent life and were thrown out. We were subjected to torture and racism and when we speak the truth, you people show the race card. You people are just pushing other races to the corner, infact you people are the racists. Now i dont even remember most of incidents that happened, but everyday i feel so lucky that i got out of uganda. And i still feel sad for the innocent indian people who were killed just like my mother. |

If all of you Indians who are contributing to this debate are so sure of your achievemnets, then then tell me please in one sentence- WHY ARE YOU SO ANGRY???????
Thinking that because your hair is slippery and your skin fairer,(well not all of you are), makes you somehow more special than we people who have coarse hair, is desperately myopic!! Scratch beneath your skin, you are likely to find that your blood colour is the same as ours. Perhaps you can explain why some natives of countrys like United Kingdom froth at their mouths with disgust at the mention of Indians? Vet your Aggro to the right enemy or better still celebrate your 'achievements' and live us Africans alone. |
|
Thank you for the enlightenment, having slippery hair and a fairer skin does'nt make us special. Why are you bringing irrelevant subjects to this topic? just read your own words, you sound like an hypocrite. Please stop making every discussion into a racial fight, we are not generalizing about all the africans. We were subjected to racial discrimination and hatred in uganda. Stop pushing other races to the corner and think with an open mind, was the hatred towards indians in uganda right justified??? I guess you are'nt even ugandan, you live in england and make assumptions that the british hate indians. You need to think twice before blaming indians for your problems in africa, we did not treat you like slaves, the anglo people did infact we were the ones who helped the local ugandans, and what makes you think that british people love you so much? |
|
Only an idiot like you believes that the British love you illegal Africans in the UK. Africans are right now scamming the system left right and center. By the way, have you ever heard of a well known African restaurant in the UK ? It does NOT exist because lumps of matoke and ugali is not exactly sophisticated 'cuisine' is it. Not is meat boiled with salt and pepper. By the way, if you don't llike curly, screwy hair it surely is not the fault of the Indians, is it? Just live with. |

1 http://www.london-eating.co.uk/cuisines/afric... Your comments are soo denigrating. If Uganda is sooo bad, why are you Indians still there? Why don't you Indians stay the hell in your own country instead of invading other people's country and criticising them all the time? Or is your population too much to handle?? Even here in the US, some of them act like they are better than all other races and don't want to associate with anybody. Tripp |

Shreya sorry to hear of what your family went through in Uganda. There were many such cases as we have heard. It seems that you all settled in India after the exit from Uganda. Many of us were made stateless by having our Uganda passports taken away when we were made to line up(in Kla) like animals many miles away from our towns. The final send off was not a pleasant one. Uganda has not stopped suffering after that. About 60 thousand people was not a big trouble when they were not armed. They left peacefully praying and all this now hits back in Uganda. Sorry to hear about the way many in Uganda suffered as a result of Asian departure.

To Kotecha.
That is precisely what I am talking about. I kind of had some regard for you, now even that is gone! I will ignore your rantings and will clarify one point. I AM NOT AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT!!! I WORK AND LIVE IN AN AREA WHICH IS THE ENVY OF MANY. I will also point out to you that I am very proud of my race, my hair and my curves! And whatever names you call me, and however much you insult me, you will never take away my 'Africanness', of which I am immensely proud. To me, happiness is knowing I am an African- so deal with it darling. Your anger is supping up your life and I am sure you would not want to meet your end as a sad little man. So stop the aggro.!!! STELLA MUSOKE BSc MBA PS: I actaually love currys, just as much as I love matooke, ugali, pasta, couscous etc. |
