Russia, Uzbekistan to build gas pipe, update price formula

Russia and Uzbekistan agreed on Tuesday to build a new pipeline through Uzbekistan to export Turkmen and Uzbek natural gas, and to switch to a European gas pricing formula, the Russian prime minister said on Tuesday.

Analysts say the planned pipeline to be linked to Russia will allow Moscow to maintain its monopoly on Central Asian gas exports to Europe and help bolster its influence in the region.

Which is all the more reason why Europe, as a whole, should become completely self sufficient, so that they are not dependent on Russia for their energy.

Good to see Russia is making moves to make friends with it's neighbors. Looks like there will not be a war for the next year or two

You sure prove who is the agressor here. It seems that the Soviet union being gone is not enough for you. YOu prove that you do not want peace or prosperity or a future for Eastern Europe. You are living in the past and only push hate and revenge.

Yes, what goes around comes around, and Georigans cluster bombing and killing Ossetians and starting the conflict ended up losing in the endgame.

Yes it looks like old Europe is more interested in getting on with a better future than living in the past and spreading hate, gloom and doom like some of the hate-filled eastern European countries.

Any idea when russia admits to its use of cluster bombs agains civilian targets, destroying the bridge in georgia and completely robbing blind georgian homes and cities? Russia is not gonna admit as a result of bad reputation. Did you notice that the US dollar shot up all the sudden when the conflict began? It looks to me like alot people got scared and put their money in US where it is a safer investment.

Eastern european countries have much more to loose, if Russia continues it's military offensive against neighbors. But as long as Russia keeps focus on Economic integration, military actions are less likely to come. Positive investment with it's neighbors may be the other way for Russia to win back trust of it's neighbors.( Of course all will prefer free speech )

You seem to be "loose" with the truth. It is Georgia, and its American lapdog Sakashvilli who is attacking its neihbors. And the double standards are playing very well in lala land where truth doesn't matter. Ah well, half-truths and lies play very well in the western media world of Propogandaland.

LOL

You've got your head screwed on backyards.

Looting Georgian homes was payback for Georgia's attack on S. Ossetia.

What DO you get in the world of current events? I'll bet whatever it is, it'd fit into a thimble.

Now then, when Ossetians start burning Georgian churches by the hundreds, maybe Americans will really get their dander up.

Or maybe not.

Or maybe, just maybe - burning, looting and ethnic cleansing is a separatist prerequisite to being recognized by the international community.

Maybe the Ossetians need to really go berserk, so that we in the West can say "Oh, we better recognize their independence because they seem to be really, really mad."

Yeah, I'll bet that's the way it works.

BP, the operator of this pipeline, shut it down as a mesure of precaution, in case the conflict intensified.

This hasn't happened, and the pipeline hasn't been blown up, contray to your lies!!!

Can't you tell the truth, just once in a while, or is it always Russia's fault?

True.

I wonder what Europe would say if Russia would bomb oil pipelines and plants like USA did it in Iraq and Yugoslavia.

When did I say that pipeline was blown up?

However, looking at the post war moves by both Russia and US/EU, it seems that access to Caspean Oil/Gas transport are the biggest reasons for US/EU supporting Georgia and Russia trying to overthrow Sakashvili...
