Turkey is a poor third world state and is no match for Greece

Guys, don't bother yourselves with this guy's post anymore. He is obviously an ignorant person who has some sterotypes he believes that things in the World are running the way his little brain works.

What amazes me is that most of the ignorant Greeks I have encontered are Diaspora Greeks, not the residents of Greece. The diaspora Greeks do not study a lot, believe that all non-Western countries should be in shit, and not aware of the fact that the power of West bleaks and the new rising economic powers are Indians, Chinese, Mexicans, Russians, Brazilians and Turks..

Russia is a European country(Slavic and Orthodox Christian).

Mexico and Brazil are as Western as USA. One have been founded by Spanish and Portugease, the other by English. Only difference the first two has a much higher percentage of non-white(non-european origin) people than third.

India and China might have booming cities, you shouldnt only look on Mumbai, Delhi, Beijing, Shangai(non of which by the way is not a very nice place to live), but take into account also the countryside and villages as well.

There are indeed developed Non-Western states ,Japan and Emirates.

You are not the one to educate me in Economics. I taught many Economics courses at university. China and India are growing enormously and they will dominate World economy in a few decades. Instead of making up stories about the differences of cities and villages of China or India, I would instead recommend you to look at numbers which are more objective information.

West is what you define it to be. If you extend your definition, you can even assume Turkey as West. You seem to be illusined as equating West to Christianity. Mexicans in US are looked down on by WASPs, and ask them whether they consider themselves as West.

Russians (newspapers, people, media) refer to some countries as West which is implicity excluding their own from the concept that they refer to.

Do not try to make a discrete definition of what West is. And don't attempt to educate other people when you are not that educated yourself.

I dont contradict myself I just gave some stats to prove the falacity of your turkish friends comments about "booming economy of Northern Cyprus". After the Cyprus would be unified the official government would have to take in charge of the former TRNC to develop it litttle bit and eliminate the corruption and backwardity which was flowering during the years of turkish occupation. In official stats the GDP per capita of Cyprus is already down because it counts the entire island, includint the illegaly occupied part.

Greece is in today's position because of EU support. But I have many friends from northern Europe and they said that they are tired of supporting the poor countries in EU like Greece, Portugal and previously Spain. Now new comers are in the pipeline. The northern European want to quit EU due to this union is benefit of Greece, not theirs...

Turkiye is catching up although we are outside EU.

I agree with you that converting sacred religous places to worship places of other religions is not a nice deed. Yet, this happened in 1453, not today!! Do not judge what a country has done 5 centuries ago with what a country should do in 21st century ideals and beliefs.

You might say: then why don't Turks convert Hagia Sofia back into a church. But the problem is, it has been a mosque for many centuries as well and converting it back to Church would be a mistake at this point again. Muslims have as much sensitivities about this old building as you Greeks have.

I believe Turkey has taken the best course of action by making Agia Sofia a museum.
