Turkey's Gul 'Accepts' Armenia Invitation

let`s hear the armenians first.

No actual change will come of this mostly symbolic visit. Armenia will never pull out of Karabakh and never drop the genocide recognition support. We all know this.

Karabakh is between Armenia & Azerbaijan. As I have said before, even if Armenia made consessions on Karabakh the population of Karabakh would not go back to Azeri controll. Anything other than independence means war. It's simple reality on the ground.

Genocide recognition will never be dropped as to us it means "pissing" on the memory of our dead (forgive the vulgarity of the expression but it makes the point rather vividly). Never going to happen.

The best we can hope for is normalization of relations without any conditions so that maybe over time with contact and relations on the grassroots and trade level the newer generations will have a chance to move on.

The conditions put forward by Turkey are impossible to fullfil by Armenia. Anyone with half of a brain knows this. Turkey's blocade of Armenia amounts to an act of war and must stop if there is to be even a small chance of reconciliation. But as we know Turkey's policies especially towards Armenia have been hijacked by Azeri oil.

I would also like to add that I hope there are no large demonstrations when Gul is visiting. I think it would be in poor taste as our president invited Gul over.

I pray that the Azeris and their supporters from TC do not attempt the unthinkable especially with some 5000(!) fans(!) turning up in Yerevan.

well..if alleged AG recognition and no movement on NK issue still prevails,then i cannot see the border opening-although i feel it should be for precisely the same reason of closer contacts with people may make the future armenian and turkish generation to be able to move on-.
I dont see anybody will be demostrating against Gul`s visit as this would be very contradictory of the armenian view so there wo`nt be any unpleasantness,,as for the hijacking the occassion by Turkish and Azeri ultra nationals??...no,they are all good guests.
all in all this visit may not move the earth but a step in the right direction..next maybe a cultural heritage of TR-AR-AZ triangle/ without the dark sides of history?.. who knows.

I hope that your president will understand this as well during his discussions with our prez.

Gul must be respectful and logical if he wants results.

Then we can discuss all the outstanding issues and solve them over time.

fans will not even be an issue,i kow that..from what i hear of the general young population of the armenians,they seem to have moved on already..always an intellectual move..good luck to all.

Although this visit would not mean a beginning in solving main issues between two countries, it may provide an important ground for a dialogue and a normalization. Although that may look like a small step, it would be the most optimistic result by now as far as the hostility between two nations is concerned.
