Why do Turks pretend to be white?

I don't understand why we, as Turkish people, fight so hard to prove that we are caucasian. Just because one has white or pale skin does not make them genetically caucasian. I, for one, have these features but I'm also aware that I am not totally caucasian. I am a Turk and I am proud to be a Turk. I think alot of Turkish people try to say that they are caucasian because this world was taught to believe that the caucasian race is the supreme.... Hence, anything darker is not pure or superior. This is discrimination at its best!!!

we're not purely caucasian, but so the millions of Eastern Europeans.
We're globally classified as caucasians; so, even the Tuvans (western Mongolia) are classified as "caucasian"....

Original Turks have all disappeared (by mixing).
As for the Modern Turkey:

-Turkey Turks and AzerbaÏjan Turks show features of Caucasian race; and they're as caucasian as Greece, Russians, etc...

- Central Asian Turks (Kazakhs, Uzbeks,...) are "globally" caucasian; they've about 30% Mongolian blood; but they remain caucasian...

If you are so proud of being Turkish why do you have (or use) a Greek name?

I'm from Yoruk town SW Turkey now living in istanbul (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/52... ) both my parents have blondes in their family (%30-40), i'm pale-brunette and the town is mostly brunette.i haven't seen far eastern lookalikes but there are too little non-pale dark skinned who i guess med. coast mixed(turk-kurds-arabs..) originaly ones that are mixed.Turkey has many races mixed but becoming more darker everyday esp. in big cities look at old Turkish movs. and think the sit. now.But to be honest i can easily accept being non-white as true happiness is based on Eastern Culture for me and for centuries that hasn't been changed much, i love my country the whole.
