Trinidad is the most disgusting place I've ever visted, it filthy, bad roads and drivers, riddled with crime and generally terrible.

I love trini but ah fraid to go back there. I wanted to build a house there and go back every six months but I had to change my mind. Toooooo much crime. Just imagine I feel safer in America than there. What a shame.

Trinidad is like any other country that has crime. It just seems worse because the country is small. I spend weeks at a time and nothing happens. If you walk around with a wad of cash or act like you are richer than everyone else (which most Trini foreigners do when they go back home) you will most likely get in trouble; like everywhere else. My stepfather left Newark, NJ because he got mugged twice on our block, he felt safer in Trinidad..I assure you he never got mugged in TnT.
Live where you want to and can stay where the hell you want. Anyway, I don't think we want idiots like you in our country.

I've lived in Trinidad, live oversees now, but searching for home. I think there's no need to call names when we disagree with others opinions, it's just an opinion. For me I found that in terms of doing business in Trinidad as an African Trini - there is too much of a slave mentality - in that mainly white foreigners and companies get the respect (not to mention) contracts - if you return as an African/Trini professional to do work - "they" really fight you. A slave mentality rules, progress=let's be like America/Europe/Canada - let's get recolonized and enslaved again.

TnT is one of the better places to live in the world, terrorist-nah!, crime-yep (gotta be true to yourself), but if you go to TnT, look simple and look the same, doh be different and put on "fake-Yankee" accent, or else you lookin' for trouble.

I actually stayed there for two months. Things were expensive. Yes, we have an ass for a Prime Minister. We need better politicians but I know that eventually I would like to return home to live. Living abroad was a choice my parents made without my consent; I don't intend to be a hypocrite while living in the US and commenting on the politics of Trinidad. But I see where there are things that we don't have in the US that the people of T&T have. I don't know my neighbors and if I don't have salt or sugar I can't call or go next door and ask for some. I can't always expect a good morning from anyone. The good people of TnT is what gives the country hope.

Don't be surprised that I may check out the credentials for becoming a politician in T&T.

I try to be unbiased in judging things. However, I must be truthful about my recent visit to Trinidad so I apologize to those who feel targeted but it's not my intention. When I visited though it was rough. The food prices were astronomical. I thought that New York had their set of mean people, but I was shocked when people were so rude and showed no sense of courtesy or respect to their fellow neighbors. Walking the streets and malls, the people didn't smile or say excuse me but just seemed angry.
I Also experienced my share of ignorance from a guy in the airport who didn't work in customs but actually outside at a desk as a night guard I believe. Couldn't even ask a question without being treated like crap.
I understand having pride in our country, but I must acknowledge truth too. Trini has changed!!

I had the same experience in 2007. It makes me wonder what made people change like that. Just nasty attitudes, no respect. Man I eh going back dey.

Don't fool yourself that all negativity comes from Laventille - cause you'll miss what's really going down. Those so called whites and negroe "elite" on the westside and other middle-upper class areas, watch television also. They're the ones who shop and spend money with all those American companies, enriching them. This is the real dangerous group who believe anything white and foreign is better - and that's what's destroying Trinidad

What destroying trinidad is the police force. They are the gang leaders and bobolee manning backing dem. They have manning with his tail between his legs. Anybody who could get out of trini please use the opportunity. Trinidad could only get better if the white man take over. Then and only then it will be a paradise again.

I do intend to go and live elsewhere. The fact is that Trinidad is not improving, and WILL NOT improve because of the mentality of its people. I know many wont like what I've said because the truth hurts! Think about it, terrible health care system, lawlessness, regular power outtages, no water in some ares, record high murder rate, kidnappings, corruption, bad roads, and the list goes on. I am not imagining these things, this is what Trinidad is today. I stand by what i said, it is disgusting!! Why should should people be living under these conditions? and there is no indication that its going to get any better, and then people have the nerve to call me an idiot! some who dont even live here!
I am not going to simply bury my head in the sand and say "Ah proud to be a Trini" and pretend that all the problems here dont exist.Take a good look people, at what this place has become. I for one want a better standard of living. If moving to another country will achieve that then i am prepard to do just that. For those who have no problems living here, I wish you all the best.
