MOST Ph.Ds - Awesome to hear! But what has that done for Tonga? Honestly ask yourself - With The amount of Doctorate degrees Tonga has, Has it LIFTED THE STATE OF LIVING IN TONGA? Yes?...No?...How?....Where? In my opinion - Its VERY hard to see any improvement. Every trip to my beautiful Kingdom I see a part of its beauty and culture deminish.

There must be a system revolution!
Unless the monarch rule changes the system the Kingdom will be run down to Nothing!
The people need to demand the change continously.
I feel so sorry the kingdom and THE PEOPLE - everytime I go back it has less for the people and more for certain people.

The system that you want to change is the system that create those PHD!! So what would you like change? Would your system work better? Have you done it before?

Thats a good proposal for discussion. And good questions to consider. For me, I dont think the current system has anything to do with the Ph.Ds that have been produced? Proof of this would be, the number of PH.Ds recieved outside of Tonga with those who identify themselves as Tongans! Put that against the numbers of international/scholarship students from Tonga that have recieved Ph.Ds - It is very low!! In which case those getting Ph.Ds the most has been family orientated rather than Tonga govt/system produced. If the current system was producing most of the Ph.Ds, All govt and educational departments would have a clear occupation turn over rather than the one person sitting in a position for 40years?? LOL Where is the desire or drive to improve in those cases? It would be good for the current system TO ALLOW changes and proposal to happen. Otherwise, Its like playing snakes and ladders: You go so high, then you go down the snake back to square one again. Proposal for changes is just the luck of the dice? You might get to the end? maybe not?? The BIG question is, Who is making up the rules for the Board game???

The current system is the result of thousand of years of existence in Tonga through cultural development of rulers with various ways of administering order and prosperity of our little tiny country
Pre European contact it was a powerful dynasty..with control North as far as Tikopia and Uvea to Samoa etc
Late 1880's a Country with a Consitution ( 1875) unique in the World that allow us to avoid colonisation with US determenining which path to take according to US ...
Education started by missionaries expanded by Government...
The greatest expansion was by Taufa'ahau Tupou 1V when he was the Minister of Education....aiming that all Tongan will all have the opportunity to be educated....building of Primary School (PS) in which all in the country will have access to...
Establishment of the Teachers College to provide teachers for the expanding PS..when there were not enough teachers..Untrain Teacher (UT) were employed till the have the opportunity to go to Teachers college. In the early days people with Lower Leaving Certicate was employed..
In those days if a child of school age is not at school the School Inspector will be looking for those and parent was resposible if kids don't go to school
The result was that Tonga had among the highest literacy rate in the World 99.8%
Tonga High School was established late 1940's still by Tupou1V..so the top brain in Tonga are educated in the NZ syllabus to SC level ( Form5) then continue in NZ for UNI Entrance or colleges
Scholarship was given to those that help serve the country such as Doctors, Nurses, Engineers, Teachers....they return to work in Tonga to serve the people they were trained in warious dicipline for...
The result is now Tonga have the second Highest PHD's per capita in the worlds
Those of US who was educated in Tonga to High School level then have a choice if we want an education overseas to do it ourselves...just like any private sector..its up to US
In the US,you pay for your own Edu unless you have a Scholarship from someone, so is Australia & NZ they have student loans..and work or parent help to go to UNI
In Aust what has been found that the Lower socio-economic are left out from the opportunity to higher Edu as they can't afford it...
What is your Yard-stick to measure the output of the current System...The UN Human Developmnet Index (HDI)...Tonga is the best in the Pacific even comparing Fiji and Samoa we are doing far better then them ..Tonga HDI is same level as Developing country
So what are we going to change...
In Autralia the Indigenous people ( maybe same in US & NZ).. is a total disaster,,socially education & economic...as the European have tried almost everything such as assimilation etc etc
The system we are in in these country..we are mere spectator..are we going to transplant these System to Tonga..as we think its better...will it work
Or we Develop our own System that we know & managed
We are so GOOD at being CRITICAL...but are we good at coming up with Solution..???
If we can'y do it ourself..then maybe it will not work
If we have something take it to Tonga and do it..
Tonga definately need help!!! BUT the ONE that will Work

UMMM, Yeah..After all that??
First of all, You cant compare Tonga to other countires that ARE NOT being ruled by their own indigenous people.eg NZ and AUST, US etc..
2nd. 1940s to pre European days is UNRELATING to this era?? and current system and rule.
Scholarships?? those given to the professions you mentioned - are they in a position to make decisions by govt means?? LOL of course NOT! they're at a desk somewhere in Tonga??[if theyre lucky]
My point is PEOPLE WANT TO IMPROVE TONGA!!!! THE CURRENT SYSTEM IS NOT LETTING THEM!!!! simple!!!!
There's no nonsense quoting history B.S and stats??
It might have looked good a little then?? BUT clearly its not working NOW!
EVERYTHING you have said! IN THE PAST! TONGA can do better NOW!! LET TONGA DO BETTER!!
How can people go to tonga and try everything!!..and still NO... Its no wonder people are getting fustrated?! AT the End..ONLY TONGA AND PEOPLE OF TONGA LOSE OUT!
You said 2nd most PhDs per capita? Whos the 1st? I thought Tonga was?....LOL
Mahalo 'oku sai ange ke vale 'a Tonga kae Moui 'AE TONGA.

Yeah!!!, it's the SYSTEM. The system is monarchical, the PhDs seems alienated unless they are favourable by the "SYSTAMU", hahahahahaha!!!!! and that's why there's a wondering of how come Tonga is the #1 PhD per capita in the world.
