I dont careless who was first and who was the chiefs. I am looking at why this violence have survived to today.

PRIDE Is the worst enemy of UNITY! Samoans and Tongans have so much pride in their cultures and History that it tends to make them fight with each other over the most stupidest things...... PRIDE makes Samoans & Tongans compete with each other just so that one of them can feel superior over the other......

Either I am blind or you are missing my point whic could mean we are both blind lol..... lets say that we have too much pride to get on with each other.

How can we attempt to adress this? You have mentioned culture and history, hopefuly we can start there.

Hey i see that Pride is a good thing too. But when it is misused in the expression used for degrading another person or culture thats when it is wrong.
I love the Tongan and Samoan cultures i saw and was fortunate to see both and experience both cultures in New Zealand when i studied there. Both cultures are rich in history and culture both share so much in common and it is true that both are related to one another. conflicts occur becuase there is no understanding and lack of education amongst our generation. As another member mentioned too competition can kill a spirit if it is used ina way to fa`aleaga or devalue another culture. Captain Cook called Tonga the Friendly Isles and other Europeans called the Samoans the Happy people (ia kailo LOL)
But i truly believe that conflicts occur when there is no understanding or lack of it.
