Chinese stores looted in Tonga riots

This is the most deadliest, ugly, and racist action that i ever heard from this peaceful tiny island. What is going on? where were the police? why they targeted the Chinese community? These chinese business people help tongans to get cheaper goods in comparision to the other shops! Are the Tongans are jealous because the Chinese know how to work and run business? I couldnt believe what i heard . The tongans who got involved in this stupid riots must ashame of themselves.I am a real Tongan who live in Australia but i feel ashame of what was happenning.

I do not support violence of any type against anyone. but this is the result of government failure and opportunistic behaviour of criminals.There are tongans whom are jealous and some are racist but do not be ashamed of being a Tongan. A true tongan accepts that his or her child maybe be ugly or sick but never gives up on that child. Tongans must move onward peacefully. Tonga also have a weak police force and were not prepared for this types of violence.

It is very distressing to see what is happening back in my home and unbelievable to see the chinese community targetted - the tonga I grew up in was paradise and these people have ruined it forever

It is sad as it reflects poorly on Tonga. The fault lies with everyone -from roaylty down. It is also something the Chinese must think about. If they want to continue doing business in Tonga, they can "insulate" themselves by employing,socialising, living with and integrating with Tongans. They should look at what happened to Chinese in Indonesia, Solomons and Malaysia (in 1969). As for the Tongan elite, the 'free ride' is over. The people won't tolerate your crap any more. Sad, but true.

Just consider how many hostilities China has with surrounding nations. With India over it's water supply routes. With Japan over it's maritime waters and territorial dispute(s) over the Sankaku Islands (and related). With S Korea over it's continued assistance (both military and economic) to the Korea Republic. With the US over it's continued aggression towards Taiwan and claim as it's sovereign territory (though the Taiwanese wish to remain independent). And their bold-faced lies that none of this matters because "China is a peaceful nation" - which it most certainly is not. Ask any Tibetan. No, not a Chinese person pretending to be Tibetan, a REAL Tibetan.
And in case ppl are trying to make a distinction between the PRC and it's ppl - saying that Chinese ppl are friendly even though it's government are not; watch the YOUTUBE video "Chinese-Brazilian basketball brawl" and see how the sportsman (and by extension the ppl, who remember cheered them on both before and after the game) react to foreigners. No that's not just rough-housing, I can assure you that is the way Chinese view foreigners. As cockroaches.

Look, it's not simply a case of bashing Chinese. Let them to what they will to their OWN ppl in their OWN country (even though I think it's wrong and ppl in other countries SHOULD protest -- at least on moral grounds).

But don't let them export their nasty ways on other nations.

If you don't need Chinese help just let me know and I'll immediately give orders to cease and desist.

Nuku'alofa, Tonga:

A Chinese national Liu Lirong (45), residing in Nuku'alofa, was found guilty on seven charges of trafficking persons into Tonga, keeping a brothel and trading in prostitution, ruled Justice Robert Shuster today.

He told the the Supreme Court in Nuku'alofa that he had no hesitation in finding Liu guilty, and set her sentencing for May 27.

In Tonga, the maximum penalty for trafficking persons is an imprisonment term not exceeding 25 years.

In the meantime Liu was released on bail until her sentencing, on the condition she cooperates with her counsel Laki Niu in getting a
pre-sentence report from the probation office as well as a medical report on her health.

Wow!!!Wow!!!Wow!!!! Step back and have a goooood look my friend. They maybe lazy as many in other country around the world. After spending 10 years working as a volunteer, teaching in different secondary school in this beautiful island, I came to realize how proud they are in their heritage, which they were never been colonized by any country with their superpower.

I do not think that you understand what you talking about. If they are lazy, there won't be enough food. I learn from my friends in Tonga after returned for nearly 20 years now, that there are more food of all kind, even potatoes and green vegetables in the market then ever before.

So, if they are fat and lazy, at least they are not in anyway trouble to anyone as they grow their own.

But if you are talking about the trouble with the Chinece in Tonga, I think you must try to find the fact before you classify people with their behaviour.

While in Tonga, there were few criminal committed by Chinece against Chience, and it is strange to see them fighting each other. Never the less, I am not trying to protect the Tongan as they are also committed crime as well. However after the riot few years ago, all the people that claim to committed crime, in burning houses and businesses were taking to Court. From hundreds that was taking to court, only a few found to be guilty.
